Oh my!

I've been cautious during the break in period. Changed the oil and filter at 2000 miles and didn't exceed 4k, varied the engine speeds, all trips exceeded 10 miles and took a couple long trips.

Today with the odometer over 2200 miles I decided to "punch it" on an on ramp....

I did not anticipate what I got...it was just a m a z i n g. Zero to ninety in ...i have no idea how fast... It was a blur....tack running up and down....speedo running up real fast......It was exhilarating.

The last fast car I owned was a Firebird around 40 years ago...I own a Prius and an MGB - but they are hardly in the same league - then again, I am not sure what is.

Hahah, love this thread. I have Oh my moments almost everyday. You're right, this car just absolutely takes off. On ramps have completely changed for me. I'm hitting 90 or 100 in 3rd gear on the on ramp. Merging is not even a word I care about anymore.

I know exactly how you feel. I remember getting a fast or rather a quick car and becoming intoxicated with that first pull.
I kept searching for that same feeling. I took unnecessary chances just for the exhileration of punching it. Then one day it caught up to me and I wrecked the car. After years of playing it safe I'm ready for a quick car again but I will never drive recklessly again.

Its ok to have some fun but be careful out there.

I am so jealous! Have 400 miles until break-in complete. Its almost as bad as the order wait. Interesting that you defined "short drive" as 10 miles. I have done the same but Porsche manual very vague simply suggesting "avoid short trips". Does anyone else have information on this?

Car should not ever be run, and certainly not run over 3k rpm, where it will not warm up. I use the oil temp as a guide as to whether the car is warmed up..i take any temp over 180F as warm and 210+ as operating temp.

It usually takes my car over 4 miles to achieve 180f oil temp, this is not a problem as the closest destination from my house is 4 miles away - i live in a exburb of Philadelphia...

Most jaunts are far enough as cars today are set to warm up fairly fast. The problem is with to short of run you heat and cool the engine and this causes evaporation of water vapors inside the engine which can cause corrosion. I would guess that a 3 mile drive would be sufficant to keep this from happening. If you live in a humid climate it could be more of an issue.
