Car is dumping coolant!

So I got home from work today and noticed that my car was dumping coolant. I checked to see it was leaking at the cap and it wasnt? I cracked the cap and purged the system obviously breaking the vacuum. When i did this a **** ton of coolant poured out the bottom. From under the car, you cannot see where the leak is. I dont have a local dealer so will have to ship the car for service.

Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this??

here is a video

I had the same symptom at 700 miles and it turned out to be a pressure relief valve that was redesigned (and maybe new manufacturer). They picked up the car with a wrecker and transported it to the dealer of my choice. I went with them to talk to the tech about the problem. They had not had that issue before, but quickly diagnosed the problem. They over-night shipped the new part and I picked up the car the next business day. It does not require taking off the bumper to get to the part. The old part used to be attached to the overflow tank and the new part is separate from the tank. It can be accessed simply by simply taking off the fan deck (which I watched take off in less than a minute).

I have not had any trouble since. Hope you find yours is fixed as quickly as mine.

Good luck and sorry for your trouble... it is annoying to have these things crop up.

I don't think this problem is over, but I'll bet they are working on a new valve. Meanwhile, it would behoove all the dealers to stock up on a valve.

ChuckJ-What's the cause for the failure? Can it let go on the street/track?

Yep, it can let go anytime. They tell me the 997 ones had a similar problem (although it never happened to me). It's just a little washer in the valve that goes. I suspect it's an assembly issue where the washer gets scarred a little and it grows. When mine went I didn't notice a temp increase, but it might have happened just before I turned in the driveway as I walked down the street a little and couldn't find a trace. It did not happen due to engine stress as I hadn't been over 4000 RPMs yet.

Thanks Chuck. I will ask my service advisor to see what he knows. I took my car in for a small rattle, but they didn't say that there were any TSB's.

No kidding Neil!!! I got out of the car and saw that thing hissing and smoking and dripping on my garage floor, I literally ran for the fire extinguisher thinking of the fuel leak (then I felt like a fool when I figured out it was coolant).
