Tickets????

Got my first one last night
never saw him. I guess he was in traffic somewhere since the pace box is checked. Escort never alerted me.

Officer "i clocked you at 83mph, but honestly i'm sure you were going much faster"
me: ......

Oh and insult to injury, ticketed me for not using my turn signal as he pulled me over to the side of the off ramp. Really?

All in all, the way i've driven this car for the past 6 months and 9,000 miles, i can't complain with only having one ticket.

Also note the make and model... Idiot.

No Escort warning because you were "clocked"

"Speeding Tickets by Pace (Clock and Follow)
Also known as a “pace”, the clock and follow method is where an officer moves his vehicle behind another, keeps a uniform distance between the two vehicles for a certain distance and then uses the reading on his speedometer to measure how fast the target vehicle is driving."

Plead not guilty, attend the hearing, take a few minutes before the hearing to talk to the cop ...talk to him like he is a human being, be nice. Ask him if he "would be kind enough to reduce the speed reported" so that you are not awarded "points"..and other penalties. Tell him that you are not complaining about the cost of the ticket. Be sure to thank him as "sheepishly" admit that you had "absolutely no idea" how fast you were going as the car seems to "negate the sensation of speed" and quickly add, that you understand that it is your obligation to keep the car under control and under the speed limit. Thank him for the "wakeup" and that you probably "saved" your life and the life of others with this citation.

Now, after the hearing you can throw up because of all the "crow" you ate and be satisfied that the cop was probably really envious - as evidenced by the additional ticket.

I find that if I use this routine for my corporate clients it works like a gem. In Pennsylvania we have a "no point" offense of disobeyed a traffic control device (section 3111) or the old...not more than six miles over the speed limit to net no points on the offense.

Good luck...oh, smile and call the high school graduate who was elected and is sitting as a small claims judge (Your Honor)

btw...the Model...he noted a two door.

I was out in my 991 early in the morning, and cop was in front of me. He pulled over and merged in behind me. I took that as an omen to go home.

RNL, great advice. However, my job is more important than taking a day off to show up in court and waste my time and money.
Highly doubt yellow or any other color would have mattered. I was speeding, guilty. I take responsibility for my actions and will pay the fees. Granted, I put no one in danger, not even myself, but hey the law is the law. We all know speeding tickets are not about safety but about generating revenue for the suburbs.

I think 25 over in Texas is wreck-less driving, since your ticket was close to that and you thought you were doing more than the 83 maybe it's the same there and he was giving you a break.

I have had 3 tickets, about $200 a pop in 8 months and 15000 kms of 991 ownership. All violations caught by speed cameras.

It also has "radar" checked. That is a little confusing.

I used to live in Cleveland. I got lasered almost every day on the west side. Hardly ever radared. I has a Lidatek jammer at the time. Hardly ever got a ticket. When I did Get a ticket i hired an attorney to go to court. I never even went to court. My attorney would go and plead it down and pay the money. I would get a non moving violation with no points.

I can appreciate the thought that you were speeding and to pay the fine. My issue was that if I did that I would have lost my license in a year.

So far 10,000 miles in the 991 and no ticket.

Good point Chuck, the guy was a ***** for giving me a no turn signal ticket, but after calling to check the fine amount -- a court appearance is mandatory if going over 85 in a 60, maybe he was doing me a favor by giving me 83 in a 60. I'll take it. If I can keep it to one ticket a year I'll be happy. Assuming my insurance company doesn't mind either.
I'll have to get a traffic attorney on retainer at some point.
Very interesting points 998M. I live on the east side, and encounter laser every here and there, also have a laser jammer. Mostly there are devices on the freeway that emit some type of radar near the exits/on ramps that give off a false signal. Annoying, as this is often where the cops are. Not as dumb as they look.

I feel your pain-received my first speeding ticket within the first 800kms of owning my new 991. Officer said "well what are you concerned about this ticket shouldn't bother you, you can afford it." I was as polite as I possibly could be and ended up with a fine that was reasonable and chose not to take it any further. Boy that took the steam out of my enjoyment. 991 owners watch out they are out there waiting to pounce.

Just don't be the fastest car out there if you can help it, even with a detector. Let the guy who wants to race test out the road 1/4 mile ahead.

An Escort 9500ic or one with GPS may help get rid of the false alarms. Do not mistake the poilice as dumb. I went to college with several Cleveland police officers. For the most part pretty good dudes.

One by my house used to park on the backside of a bridge embankment and laser the back of cars as they drove away. After getting a big fat ticket, I went out and had a laser jammer installed on the rear of the car. This was 2006 before they had the ones that mount on the license plate. It was darn difficult to install.

Personal opinion, never go to court by yourself. Get an attorney. It will be worth the couple of hundred dollars.

Solid advice to be followed. Would add that some states like Maryland have "probation before judgement" that can be applied if you have not had a ticket in many years (forget how many years).
