991S production delay and Power Kit option
991S production delay and Power Kit option
I ordered a 991S Cab on October 1 (I'm in Canada) and was originally told December production.
Yesterday the salesman called and told me production is January 23rd. Only reason he can think of for the delay is the Power Kit option.
Has anyone actually got a car with the Power Kit yet? Or has one on order that might have been delayed?

Yeah I'm kinda wondering when the first C4S variants will actually be hitting the show rooms in Canada...
My dealer is putting on the Porsche Camp4 in Montreal and from what I gather they will be receiving the first wide-body's in Canada (Feb 2013) and those won't even be for sale.
I wouldn't be surprised that there are no actual build dates available yet, just dealer speculation.
Have you received an order number?
My C4S cab was suppose to be build in Dec but they don't have any confirmation of that yet and was told that I won't be able to get an order number until they've got a build date.
So yours is "delayed" because of the power kit and mine because it's a cab... hmmmm kinda makes ya wonder if anyone actually has a confirmed build date for any type of C4/S in Canada?

I really struggle to understand Porsche's mentality with these build dates all over the map. Like I said before, for the Cayenne I ordered it and forgot about it. Then one day it actually arrived!!
Mine is a C2S Cab with Powerkit plus much more. Just trying to confirm somehow that the delay is Powerkit. Lot's of Cabs being built (I had two visits to the Zuffenhausen production line in September and saw many Cabs on the line).

Hope you get it soon, looking forward to your comments.
Cheers!
Just got confirmation of January 16 as build completion date. This date will work for me.

Don't consider this a knock - I'm asking a serious question. Is $13K worth the 30hp gain? You can probably do better than that with $5K in a tune and aftermarket exhaust and save $7K. This was really a question about your "pricey no matter how you slice it" comment. There seem to be cheaper options that will be available. Just wondering, thanks. Also there was another thread that described the torque gains being at the top of the curve so not as useful in most driving situations.

The price of the Power Kit is about $18k in the US. However, that does include PSE and tips and the Sport Chrono package.
Yes you may be able to do better than that with a tune but then your warranty goes out the window. My 996 TT Cab has a "Tune" but waited until CPO warranty expired before doing it. The new car is going to be driver and I'm not prepared to fight over warranty.

I guess we'll have to wait and see but most aftermarket tunes these days are flash loaded and thus you can swap between stock and modified software in a matter of minutes. Avoids any issues with warranty distractions when you're going in for obviously unrelated issues. And I have yet to hear an issue with a modified exhaust - not saying it doesn't exist but have yet to hear about one.
Again, no knock. Running through builds myself so wanted to ask. Thanks!
While "swapping" tunes may be possible I don't have the wish/urge to be playing with this type of thing myself. In the old days I used to do all service myself. Then I got into Porsche and made the decision to use professional support for the car.
If I can't afford the professional help (I can make more per hour working by far (and I charge be the hour)) than even the dealer charges I'm better off working than playing automobile technician which I would probably screw up anyhow.
Also, what would happen if you have breakdown and the car gets towed to the dealer? You could be dead in the water.

Yup, I was taking into account that most people get Sport Chrono and PSE hence the ~$13K.

Regarding the Powerkit, I would personally only suggest it to those who track the car and will take it regularly to the redline. Otherwise, you may not feel the difference. Just my opinion.
