I've always liked the way that a handful of Porsche colors have been constants almost since their beginnings. I've always wanted a Guards Red Porsche and now I have one. Here's mine and my friend's 1994 964 Turbo 3.6.
Guards is sure beautiful, especially on the 991. really shows off the lines. too bad i didn't have the ***** to get Guards for a almost daily driver. i can only admire. Congrats!
That's my current struggle. I'd really like a 2S or even a Turbo, but Shepherd and Allen Parkway aren't exactly ideal for stretching automotive legs out...

Beautiful... But you're killing me! I'm waiting for the mid-Jan delivery of my Guards Red C2 as well. As my wife said, my old ('87) 944 was black, got to go for red this time.
Congrats!
(20C4S, the red is way outside my normal comfort zone, but this time I figured what the h3ll... I fear the cop magnet aspect, really don't care for the added attention in general, but I think it just looks so gorgeous. So now threads like this are just making the wait that much more painful!

Hey Scott, you've probably posted this elsewhere already, but if I may ask, any particular reason you bought a C2 vs a C2S? Just curious if our crappy roads had anything to do with it.

1. Short story, $15000. You can configure the S or non-S up and down to bring them closer but that delta never really goes away. I had enough experience to know that there's no such thing as "an inferior Porsche," anyone that thinks that shouldn't be driving one. I met all sorts of folks in the local PCA chapter back when I had my Cayman S, and the members who actually drove their cars would never even think such a thing.
2. Opportunity: I became aware a couple of months ago that the local dealers were giving some nice discounts to clear away their remaining 2012 991's. Manual transmission was a must for me and out of the dozen or so cars across the city, there were only two with 7MT's and both were base Carreras. Had there been an S available with manual, I might have made the stretch, but that one factor was more important to me than any other feature.
3. Intangibles: I was blessed with salesman at two of the three local dealers who never pushed me towards any particular car or model. They actually listened to me and also never badmouthed the base model, in fact one of the manager's personal car was a very sweet base 911. The base car is NOT slow, you just have to rev it higher to feel the power. I guarantee it has plenty of poop for around town, touring, or the track. There's an easily searchable video of a German guy driving his base 991 around the 'Ring passing GT3's, Turbos, and a host of other faster iron while he nonchalantly chats it up with his passenger (it's the driver, not the car.)
Anyway, the car has met and exceeded all of my expectations so far, I am loving it more each day. If you'd ever like to drive it just let me know and we'll meet up.
Love the Guards Red with the black wheels as shown by catchmyshadow at http://s1.directupload.net/images/120312/f6wzjuep.jpg
Is that you with your car? If so, what year was that taken in? I love to see pics like that.
Very very well said. One chooses the Porsche that fits their partical "wants". I chose a turbo for my own reasons but when I see someone in a C2, C4, Boxster, Cayman, 944 etc I always give a wave because it feels good knowing that the car they are driving is Porshce. Either because it is what they wanted or the "Porsche" they could afford. Bottom line is they wanted a "Porsche".
I actually sold that car for more than I'd originally paid. They held their value so well that I purchased a new one six years in a row.
They were great cars, except for the early '82s; the cam belts were snapping, which caused the valves to destroy the pistons. It happened to me. The car stalled and all the damage was done once I tried to restart. Engine time.
Once that problem was corrected by Porsche, they were great cars with very little problems. I used them for my daily commute to Manhattan. I had four 944s and two 944 Turbos during the eighties. The turbos were outstanding performers and quite reliable; I loved hunting and killing the Corvettes with them.
