Painted OEM Wheels
Painted OEM Wheels
Folks,
I am thinking of powdercost/paint my OEM Carrera S wheels to black since Porsche took that option away. However, my 991 is a lease, do you think Porsche will give me hell when I return the car after 3 years? Worst, ask me to pay for a new set of OEM wheels?
Or, I should just buy a set of aftermarket wheels and not worry about it? Difference is a few hundreds vs. a few thousands $

I would get another set of wheels, not sure what Porsche has in their lease agreement but I'm sure it would be cheaper then what they will charge you when you return the car.

If it were me, I'd take the chance and keep the beautiful and strong OEM wheels. Worse case, if I am wrong and they do notice (and care), you buy a used set on ebay or marketplace and replace them (not pay for a new set).
Personally, I think the odds are small that they would notice. When you trade it in, the average sales guy is unlikely to know that those wheels weren't offered in black. He'll be looking for dings, scratches, etc.

Yeah... Plastidip could be an option, easiest and probably cheapest. However, if I want more of a "OEM finish" like glossy or semi-gloss (satin) black, plastidip would not give me that... how's plastidip handle in high temp?
Thanks, I will throw these options to my wheel guy and see what he would recommend.
