991 C2S Audio/Iphone setup
991 C2S Audio/Iphone setup
Very frustrating PCM that won't completely sync the phone and PCM such that MAP (message access profile) is available. Even the Ford Focus and Escape can do it but not Porsche?????
Anyway this is setup that seems to work for me best after numerous trials......and allows complete focus driving the beast.
1. Small 8 GB flash drive in the glove box USB port with all music.
2. ProClip Holder on driver side of console, with holder reversed so that it doesnt block the heated seats and other buttons on the console (another **** poor design, but can be made to work with some effort).
3. Iphone 5 in proclip, bluetooth to PCM for phone and phonebook on MFD screen
4. wild card MFD button on steering wheel set to station/track forward advance
5. Iphone 5 power lead into glove box outlet plug with usb adapter for charging only
6. Iphone 5 Siri used when top is up or at very low speeds.
if you have better ideas or setups please include them on this thread, thanks.

Hi, here is my setup:
Proclip iphone 5 holder w/power attachment, connected to custom fabricated metal sleeve firmly attached to center console. Lightning USB connector which also provides power and charges phone tucked behind console side and routed to plug in glovebox from behind.
I like good solid trance music and only have the Bose stereo, so a hardwire connection allows the music to go to the level I desire (the Bluetooth music connection is good, but not quite where I need it audio quality-wise at near max possible volume).
Benchmark in Seattle did the metal sleeve fabrication, my local Porsche dealer routed the power cord into the glovebox for me as I installed that myself later (original install was the non-powered iphone 5 Proclip holder).

Very sad that the technology ford incorporates in their lowest end cars is more developed than the highest end Porsche vehicles. The MAP (message access profile) was put on the iphone specifically to allow car companies to utilize it.
This combined with the AHA mobile phone app Porsche Recommends in the operating manual makes you wonder if the electronic design team is in their 60s

My dealer told me that the telephone module requires its own separate SIM card, thereby necessitating a separate phone number. Is this true? I was considering getting it just for the text messages but if that's the case, there's no point as that would mean you'd only see the texts that people sent to your car's phone number. I suppose you could swap your SIM card between your phone and car but that would be a huge hassle.

thank you Porsche for giving the USB sufficient juice to charge the phone!

nicoli, with the iphone in usb hub are you using the SOURCE or MEDIA setting as Ipod to play music? this is my first porsche and only had in 2 weeks so am still a bit overwhelmed at the technology/options.
your radar detection system from benchmark works well with the WSP capabilities?

congrats on your first Porsche! What a great adventure.

The iPhone uses the iPod setting while plugged into the USB hub, correct. I highly suggest using the option screen of every main function and exploring the menus available. Remember if you have memory seating your seat settings also memorize your audio settings as well as moving map type and scale, etc.
I remember first driving the 991, and I kept setting the map display to include the satellite terrain but later it would revert to the standard display. Again and again I wondered, "why didn't Porsche make my settings on the map stay? what a pain!" - until I figured out that pressing the memory seat button removed my settings until I memorized the seat position with my changed settings on the PCM as well.

I had Benchmark install the 9500ci with the smart cord live. Two hardware buttons below the standard controls (the little buttons under the regular 9500 controls in the picture) are for submitting a visual enforcement presence to the Escort Live! network, and for powering off the entire unit if desired. The phone will connect to the PCM through bluetooth and also the Escort 9500ci radar system at the same time if no USB connection is present. The Live app on the phone will configure and operate the radar system through it's graphical user interface, which is pretty cool, but the standard hardware controls work fine still, too. There are no issues with the 9500 powering down during Auto start/stop - the system stays on until the key is turned off.
It all works pretty well, but there are glitches sometimes like starting an audio session, say an internet radio station playing back from the phone through bluetooth on the PCM system, then plugging the usb in I might have to turn off/on the stereo (hold down volume button) to get the system to recognize the phone (as an audio source) in the USB connection. Overall I'm really pleased with things and it's a joy to use. In the past having a car of this performance calibre meant not having this type of creature comfort..and with the 991-series Carrera we get it all. It's just amazing.

Nicoli, Thanks for posting your setups. I'm planning to keep the phone hooked up in the glove box - take it out when I'm getting off the car and plug back in when I get in - will see how effective it'll be.
BTW, are you finding 9500 CI Escort Live app useful? does it really work?

The Escort Live app is nice in that it will show a history of alerts from the radar that otherwise I wouldn't be able to access. Also the moving map and graphical alerts of others are nice to see, however, it depends on other people using the system so a low population area might not see much that way. The other mode to the detection aspect of the app is a "dashboard" type view that just lets your know your speed and that everything is okay, and also will play music that will cut out on alert (versus trying to hear the alert over music without the app). Escort's application music play ability however does not get along with regular PCM - iPhone operation and after using it, you may have to turn on/off the system or unplug/plug the iPhone in again to make things work the other way (without the app). I also really like configuring the radar settings from the app, it's a nice interface to use and gives me peace of mind that I have the thing set the way I intended.
So yeah, it does actually work - but without someone living in a higher population area with other users that are also reporting, I can't say how useful it really is. I haven't taken a trip with it yet (real life getting in the way last month or so) but it's on the list, hehe.
