Did I do something stupid?

Ok, so I took my car in to the local dealership today. I'll be without it for the next five days. They are installing the X51 Powerkit. It's scheduled to take 40hrs. Why am I doing it? Dunno, I just wanted it and it comes with the PSE, that I did not have originally. I love me some buttons! Maybe my ego is taking over.

Cost? I was able to get a deal on the parts, but the labor is a killer, $120/hr!

Hell, you only live once and you can't take the money with you, or the car for that matter. I'll be taking it to the track a couple of weeks afterwards. Will probably need to upgrade the brakes now too! And get new tires!
Here's the first visit to the track in October. I was hitting 143mph before the hard break before. Expect I may be able to push it higher if I have the cajones!

Roebling

OH NOOOO... you've been bitten by the bug and have officially arrived on the slippery slope (you're gonna need those sticky tires!).

I say good for you!
It's not the most obvious thing to do... you've got some big brass ones my friend!
I've been struggling with my decision not to put the X-51 on my order as well... told myself the 400 horses is plenty quick (and particularly with the PDK, it is), the car is build now waiting for shipping but still.... boys will be boys!
So I may end up doing what you are... looking forward to your feedback.

BTW great video!
You should post it in the 991 video thread as well.

CONGRATS!

Loved the video, and the eerie music too! It'll be a beast with 30 more horses, and you'll keep your warranty.

PSE is sweet too.

For someone who like to have fun at the track, I think the powerkit will make it even more exciting, and get closer to the upcoming GT3's performance. Probably real close.

Good for you!! I'm excited to hear how the install goes and your impressions after. No one will be a better critic since you will have plenty of seat time with and without.

I'm starting a project this summer to mod the exhaust and wheels to see if I can attain similar numbers to the power kit. I hope to shed about 100-110lbs from the car and boost the HP by 30-40. It looks like the cost would be around $7K-ish, I will keep everyone posted.

I'm really curious to know how it comes out. I've been considering upgrading the exhaust, but am waiting till my warranty ends. Which, the way I'm driving, shan't be too long now.
Do you plan to dyno the car after the upgrades?

Nice lap mate!

I cannot wait for spring - look forward to the those days...

Keep us posted on the kit, I am interested to know how you think it has changed your car.

EXACTLY +1
I spent the 15K (including implant costs) to put X51 on my 997.2 - other than a little more linear power delivery and a slightly weirder exhaust note, not much to show for it. I sold it and am in a 997.2 PDK TT, and let me tell you, THAT is an upgrade youll FEEL

Anyway enjoy!

I can definitely appreciate a big impact on the driving experience but the OP is moving to X51 having driven the C2S round the track beforehand. I am really interested to see if there truly is an incremental difference. Its not just about 30HP but the other enhancements all add up to enhanced performance, how much is what I am interested in.

Also, its not fair to judge the 991 C2S w/X51 to the 991 turbo (when it comes out). Saying that, a great experiment would be to see the difference between the 991 GT3 and the 991 C2S w/X51. I think I know what the outcome would be but none the less it would be interesting.

Back to the long wait!!!
