Stock pads track worthy?
Stock pads track worthy?
If you track your 991S, please post your track experience with OEM brake pads, and more specifically whether they can stand up to aggressive track driving. Personally, I have a very hard time believing that they can, but I really want to
So all you late brakers (naturally), speak up please!
Ideally, please list your setup (tires, brake fluid, etc), driving style/aggressiveness on the scale of 10, track experience level, durability of brake pads (or expectations thereof based on wear), brake feel, any fade/sponginess by the end of the session, etc.

Track weekend was October at Roebling, outside Savannah, GA.
Stock 991S, OEM tires, brakes, everything. Car already has about 16k on it by then.
First track day, but did about 3hrs worth over two day period.
Driving style/Aggression level - 6.5 (still new).
Was hitting 140+mph before hard braking into turn one. Here's the video I made. You can decide the aggression level. I was running about 10sec slower than experienced drivers in GT3s.

I never had any fears regarding the brakes. They did quite well throughout the day. I never noticed any change from first lap to last. We did do 30min sessions, ten total all weekend.
Doing second track weekend tomorrow, and still on original brakes and same tires. I did get the brakes fluids changed to what the dealer had. They claimed it is same as the track fluids without the blue dye.
Hope the links work, responding from mobile version.
One more, talking with a gentleman that brought his new red 991. He says the car is great but their only weak part is the OEM brakes. Also, he says he has owned and raced turbos since '79. He may know what he's talking about.
Tracked it a couple of times. Stocks pads are effective but not confidence inspiring. The car can easily be tracked without mods. Just remember that it is set up for the road and not the track.

I assume the gentleman who doesn't like the OEM brakes is only talking about the pads, because the stock 6 front x 4 rear piston Brembos and rotor sizes are more than enough for a 3200lb car.
In my experience, on an all stock setup for about 15 track days last year, the stock pads work adequately over most tracks and are very kind on the rotors (I've gone through almost three sets of rears without needing a rotor change). You get some noticeable fade but no overheating or glazing.
When the pads don't work well is on tracks with a series of sharp turns without straightaways in between to provide cooling (e.g., Pocono infield). The PTV is very hard on the rears.
Upgraded brake fluid is an absolute must. I've always used Motul but this year I'm switching to Castrol SRF.
**I'd like to upgrade the pads but as far as I know none of the afternarkets have been released yet. If anyone knows different, please speak up!!**

Did COTA for one day, 4 30 min. sessions. This is a fast (f1) track with a 150mph back stretch
Had my doubts about brakes as pedal feel didn't give me the same feedback as my modified Z06. Very impressed in spite of doubts although I'm still learning the car
Had brake fluid changed and will be spending two days at a more familiar track in April
