I found this from the Fabspeed 991 parts page, it's what will be going on Tuesday morning:

We are currently only doing the mufflers, not the x-pipe etc.

Exhaust weight

So according to these Fabspeed pictures and what CPA4s said earlier about the weight of the stock, the Fabspeed side mufflers should be only 11 lbs for both of them!

Let me know if this is true.

Thanks

Exhaust installation

Nicoli,

I also had a question about installation.

I saw previously you mentioned that by changing the side mufflers, you do not need to remove the rear bumper. Is that true?

What about if you want to change only the center main muffler?

Do you have to remove first the side mufflers in order to do that?

Do you need to take out the rear bumper in that case?

Thanks

I want to go with this set up myself.

Curious to see what your thoughts are on just replacing the side mufflers. I was told that there isnt any significant sound increase which is why i may go with the race set up.

Yes- side mufflers don't need rear taken off. Don't know about center main as leaving it on (factory PSE). Might do headers/cats later (keeping factory PSE ETC)

At install now. Apparently the pipe connections are not correct from Fabspeed and we have to shorten the pipe to fit the tips. Sigh. Benchmark is doing everything they can though with contacting Fabspeed and trying to resolve this.

Update: car driven with mufflers installed to nearby muffler shop for adjustment of pipe leading to tips. Live blogging from the waiting room, lol.

Update2: Fabspeed's piping to the exhaust tips from the mufflers that we ordered only currently fits cars without factory PSE. We had to fix our own pipes, but got it done. Fabspeed needs to make piping for cars with PSE *and* without. This was a whole-day-long hassle and I'm a little frazzled by the whole thing, but thankfully Justin Karis at Benchmark was on it and got things handled. Thanks Justin. Everything is on and works. There is more rumble down low and its smoother up high on the revs. Feels a bit extra punch over 6000 rpm even without anything else installed. (but thats my butt-dyno)

Sound is tough to explain - it's very much like the 991 PSE before but has slightly more pronounced crackles and pops and it is more focused, if that makes any sense. It has a pleasant more-exotic (imo) resonance in normal driving that was missing before. It's just a bit louder, not too much with just the side-mufflers..but now I really want to add the headers/cats. hehe. I don't have a good driving sound clip, just a few revs atm.

"Before vid"

"After vid" - lost my cameraman the phone is just propped up against some grass off the side of the road. not as good for sound placement as the "before" vid.
