This, apparently, was the day they painted black cars in Stuttgart.

If your car was one of these and its door was swapped from one of the others, do you really think the quality would be less than 100% consistent?

Porsche's new 991 paint shop is the finest in the world. Totally computerized, painted by robots with infinitesimal tolerances for variations and error.

Glad you're happy and survived the extra 3-4 months wait.

But I would have:

  • Asked for money
  • Waited top see the swap and then inspected it under different lighting conditions
  • Confirmed...extensively... that everything was installed correctly: closures, alignment, gaps, locks, speakers, etc. Plus rattle, water and wind tested.
  • Received assurances (verbal and written) that ANY subsequent discovery of something not right would be quickly taken care of and a Porsche sports car loaner provided during the fix.

BUGS is infamous around these parts
I had a similar problem on a 2010 Turbo when I got it home a noticed chips on the wing that had been painted over, and the dealer (Porsche of Melbourne) acted dumb and told me to call Porsche in Atlanta to see if it happened during the boat ride. Atlanta denied any wrong doing and suggested I take it to a another dealer and check the damage and they found the paint on the left rear corner panel was twice as thick as it should be and guessed it had been dinged up and repainted somewhere. I got squat from Porsche or Porsche of Melbourne and sold the car as the paint was starting to peel, but they now having me come back after three years with no P car. Of course I would never buy from Porsche of Melbourne again.

All's well that finally ends well Your car is breathtaking, and it's most encouraging to read about your positive experience.

Very disappointing to hear that Porsche of Melbourne didn't take responsibility.

Actually, the original build was also Agate - the picture of the damaged door was taken on an overcast day. It's one of the things I like about Agate - it has some unique characteristics under different lighting conditions.

Jeb,
Congrats - Your patience paid off.
Never settle for less than you deserve.
In the big scheme of things three months was nothing.
