Sport Mode-Warm up
Sport Mode-Warm up
Before shifting into sport mode how much warm up do you give the engine? water temp to ???, oil temp to ???, time ??, distance ?? i finally made it past 2k after 4 winter months and need to start pushing the rpms closer to redline in sport mode, so want to make sure warm up correct. thx
I use sport mode right from the time I start the car, but I keep the RPMs below 4000 until the oil temp is 130. In the old days we used to say 150, but now we use 0 or 5 flow oil. If you want it to warm up to over 185, you need to stay in normal because in sport the engine cooler is activated to attempt to keep the engine temperature at 185.

It usually takes me about 5 to 6 miles, under 4000, to get the temp over 185. After this I put the car in Sport. I never run 185 consistently when fully up to temp though. . . it's usually just over 200. I still have 1000 to go until break-in is completed.
Operating oil temps drop considerably from standard mode when you go into to sport or sport+.
Mine is around 230 driving down the highway in regular mode, but 190 - 200 under the same conditions in sport & +...this is normal from what I've read.
Water temp is always 200 (all Fahrenheit)

I was advised by the dealer service department not to push hard when oil temperature is below 165' F. I don't operate in Sport or Sport + until the oil temperature is up there. It won't hurt anything if the oil temp gets over 212' F as oil won't have a problem at that speed. It does take about 5 miles to get the temperature up and if I put in Sport or Sport + the third radiator opens up (I have X51) and keeps engine too cool for too long.

First thing I do when I start the car is hit the sport button. Even if I leave it in automatic, it doesn't shift too aggressively if you are smooth with the throttle. I hate lugging the engine when it is cold, and I think without "sport" being pressed, it does. If I'm not engaged (phone), I will drive it in manual and just keep the rpm's below 4000 till it warms up.
First thing I do after start-up is hit the sport button. I feel in normal mode the engines luggs and is not good when cold. In manual, I don't don't go past 4000 till it warms up. if I am engaged (phone), and don't drive in manual, if you are smooth, the revs won't go above 4000. If you don't drive aggressively until after warm up, sport mode isn't going to hurt the engine.
I don't necessarily agree with this statement, or there's something wrong with my car. I turn it into Sport Mode after a half mile, in freezing mornings and it downshifts immediately, without me changing the pressure on the gas pedal....
