PSE problem? A little disappointed...

Wondering if I have a problem with PSE and appreciate any insight.

After reading the rave reviews of the PSE I had it installed on my 2013 991 S cabriolet today. Not quite the "night and day difference" I was expecting. It is a little deeper and louder when I turn it on - but has very little of the popping, cracking or burbling I was expecting on decel or overrun. In fact, only can hear some popping or burbling when in 2nd gear and decelerating from around 3-4k rpm. Otherwise, not much other than deeper sound.

I made sure engine is warm, have the sport button turned on and the sport exhaust on. Tried with and without sport button on. Did not make noticeable difference either way.

If there is anything I can point the dealer to look at to give me that aggressive popping and burbling I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks all-

sounds like normal to me. maybe you were expecting too much and not impressed with what you are experiencing now. I had 7 MT on my C2S and I used to hear burbling all the time whenever decelerate even in 6th gear on freeway just by stepping off the gas.

I noticed that I started regrowing hair. Seriously:

Warm up engine
Sport mode
Pse on
Accelerate to at least 60
Downshift
Listen

Repeat

The difference is more pronounced in base vehicles like mine

that doesnt sound right to me. i had it installed in a cab also and i get my hand slapped if i dont turn the PSE off 1/2 mile from the neighborhood.

popping on downshifting occurs through 2-4th at over 3k rpm.
downshifting from 3 to 2 over 5k rpm scares people...........i can force 90% of drivers on chuckanut to pull over and let me by with a simple downshift and NOT be close or tailgating their vehicle. i'm proudest though of the two harley pigs who pulled over to let me by because of the PSE sound. must of been some doctors out pretending to be bad boy motorcyclist.

i've noticed the windscreen will dampen the sound a bit and of course the sound system blasting doesnt help. have the dealer check the valve or flap opening maybe if still have problems after break in, also no offense but have your hearing checked maybe.

I have a C2S with PSE, MT. The popping and gurgling is quite noticeable for me between on and off, even at very low RPM.

Must be some problem with the install.

On my base C2 MT with PSE and sport or sport +, the difference is night and day. Go to 4k rpms in 1st or 2nd and let off the accelerator and you should hear LOUD pops and burbles It's amazing how quiet the car can be without PSE and Sport. If it's not night and day, then you may want to take it back to the dealer.

Find a tunnel and practice.

Seriously, it is not a typical loud aftermarket system. It is subtle and the pops and burbles vary by the variation in engine rpm. The inside the car sound made when shifting up at high RPM with PDK is very different when on than off. Roll down a window to appreciate that it is louder outside the car than in. Have someone drive past you and downshift.

I had about the same reaction and over time I have come to appreciate it more. Not sure it changed but I like what I hear. I also like that with it off the car goes into stealth mode and is quieter than the stock S exhaust.

Me too. After a bit of experimentation I learned to play it like a musical instrument.

Can even simulate the slow shifting of a manual transmission.

Love having the option.

This thread got me thinking and I realized that the full effect of the PSE is not experienced by the driver... as I was parking the car this morning i drove through a narrow street with concrete walls on each side...i stopped, put it in park, opened the skylight and windows and I gunned the engine.... BOOM..it's loud.

I have had this installation for over 5k miles and I recall that it did not seem that loud at first...perhaps it has a bedding in process...anyone know?

hehe, well the Factory PSE is the X-pipe - he might as well get a complete refund first if he changes that. I put in some Fabspeed mufflers but to keep the PSE we could only do the secondary side mufflers.

Here are a some vids of my car that came from the factory with PSE. If yours won't do something near this, maybe something is up.
