Tata turbo coupe takes on 911 ;-)
Second page of R&T this month (cover page is about the 911 turning 50):

Good try Tata. Looks like after GM Corvette, everybody dreams of becoming the new 911... Too bad for them that the 991 is out. By the time they catch up with the 997, Porsche has taken a big step forward again.

http://www.jaguarusa.com/jaguar-ftype-vs-porsche/ (just ridiculous)
I like the styling of the new f type. But no thanks on the extra 400 lbs and accelerated depreciation hit. I do however fully intend on getting behind the wheel of one when they hit dealers. Just curious.
Sure wish I could drive like that. I'm an older Porsche owner having enjoyed almost a dozen over the years and I would never consider cross shopping the Jaguar over a 911. Even if it had the same performance and price. There's just something about the classic 911 that has an appeal to me that I don't see in other sports cars.
I can see the f-type taking sales away from the 991. I briefly thought about the f-type instead of the 991. very briefly, but did get my interests. looks good and frankly unless you are hardcore track buy, styling/luxury/etc. is more a factor than raw performance.

Enjoy... I think this is not a bad comparison.

I think it is a great advert and good way to call attention to their return to the sportier end of the sport-gt segment. But I suspect the car itself will be cross shopped with the Corvette. Both brands used the 991 road and quality feel as their goal. I look forward to driving one.
But from everything I have read, Serge nailed it with his observation about the 991- it is exceptional. the F Type will have to be too, in order to compete beyond the Jag faithful.

Great video thanks for sharing. The F type is also less expensive than the 911. Yet a comparison of a base 911 to the turbo charged F type. Definitely different cars, but good luck i hope Jaguar can do well with the new introduction. We here all know it can't compare to a 911.
No hate about what could be a great car, but one of my gripes, except for the lack of imagination of comparing itself to a 911, is the fact that, when you look at the car, you do not recognize it is a Jaguar anymore. It is a good looking car, but it might as well be the new Miata. That's why I called it the "Tata turbo cab'" (coupe was a typo
). Except for the badge itself, it fails to leverage Jaguar's heritage and typical lines.
On top of it, they belittle themselves by comparing the F-type to Porsche rather than reminding of Jaguar's race history and showing a nice Race Green car. I have the impression that the new owners are trying to build a japanese looking car that looses its identity instead of positioning themselves as a sport/classy package.
Maybe I am too old fashioned...
