A day after PSE Install...

I took advantage of the standard exhaust recall and upgraded to PSE. Porsche paid for the labor and I got PSE for about $2,800.
Impressions after 1 day of use:
  • It does feel like a different car. Not faster, just different. More exciting? Yes. PSE should be standard equipment on the 991.
  • Before PSE: With the top down, I could hardly hear the exhaust. In fact, the standard exhaust sounded louder (inside) with the top up (thanks to the sound symposer).
  • After PSE: With top down you can clearly hear the exhaust and the gurgles, etc. With the top up, you do not hear it as much.
  • Releasing accelerator at around 5k rpm makes car do all kind of sweet noises, BUT it can be too loud under normal driving when in traffic.
  • MT transmission only: Shifting gears (say going from 1st to 2nd) around 4-5k rpm, when one depresses the clutch, you can clearly hear the pops & gurgles (after all, you have to release the accelerator -see above). It sort of makes you want to take your sweet time before releasing the clutch.
Ah, and don't tell your wife what you spent on that "toy". "You mean all it does is noise?!" Next thing you know, she will want to spend equal or more on her stuff.

Yes it does sound like a different car. Especially when starting up, much deeper. Enjoy it wherever you can

Tunnels are my favorite place to "enjoy" the sound of the PSE! Watch out though, it can scare your passengers

Question.

I bought C2S without PSE (at least not on the paper). It is a Porsche Executive car. I thought it sounds pretty nice especially when it is in SPORT mode.

3 weeks ago. I took it to the dealer to fix a "cooling system error" which turned out to be a vacuum leak at a rubber tube that connects to a exhaust system that turns the valves on and off. So you can actually hear better exhaust sound.

Dealer told me I have sport exhaust. I doubt they have actually installed or fixed a 991 C2S with PSE.

So can someone tell me if a C2S with standard exhaust has the open/close valves to improve sound? Or IS THAT the actual PSE?

I don't. I am not sure why the dealer kept saying I do.

Does anyone have a picture of the PSE on S model? I am curious what the difference is.

If you don't have these you don't have a pse. Just look under the car in the center towards the bumper cover. I suspect the dealer is referring to the take off on the intake ports that is piped into the cabin.

Those are the Valve controller right? I see the black rubber tube connecting to them, which are controlled by the vacuum.

I am going to check my car tonight to see if I got them.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but question for you on the cooling error. The other day, driving in town, my '13 C2 with ~1,400 miles on it, popped up with 'Cooling System Error.' Followed by the oil temp going up pretty fast and higher than it ever has before. Took in to the dealer this morning and they said the same you as you did. Picking it up tomorrow.

Trying to understand more about this... Is this something that is failing more? Are more folks experience this error? I wonder if there was a bad production run with certain parts.

My oil temp was normal.
what they found is a slice on the rubber tubing connecting to the exhaust system. Dealer's explanation was that the cooling system use the same vacuum system or some how is connected to the tubing that controls the exhaust valve. So when there was a leak, it triggers the cooling system error. Got it back for 2 weeks now. everything seems normal.

I just got this cooling system error as well. I just installed an x pipe that did not have the valves so I just taped up the remaining hoses. Going to take it into the dealer but not sure what they are going to do.

Ever notice that more cars speed up when you are passing them on highways or surface streets when PSE is on? In Arizona they do it ALL the time! It's ridiculous it happens so often. When PSE is off it happens noticeably less. But I even had a Prius passing me fast then as usual slow down as I was going my normal fixed speed and I passed him and that was that. Interesting how people have to pass you then slow down as if they won a race.
