C63 Black Series or a 991C2s or 4S??--Your Input Please.
SubscribeIve been a long time board member and Porsche owner. Recently Ive found myself without a Pcar owning what is in my signature. My resume of Pcars is/was: Modded 996TT, Modded 997.1TT, Modded 997.2TT (pdk). All amazing cars but they just ran their course and I moved on.
Im currently driving two of BMW's new twin turbo issues and Im going to have to keep both of them for different reasons. I just got an Audi R8 V10 and that thing with the mods Ive done is frankly amazing. So this brings me to the C63 Black Series. Its the best AMG Ive owned (Ive had 7) and has been in the stable for about 1 year. I dont know if its just me but I get bored of great cars and this one might be expendable but it has to be expendable for the right unit. I guess I could wait for the 991TT but thats a while away and pricing will be different.
So I ask you, 991 experts, is this a car that could replace the Black Series? In a perfect world I wait for the 991TT or GT3 but I might not want to wait since I could possibly get a 991 and then enjoy it for a year and then move into one of those units when the demand softens (GT3 wont). Do any of you have any seat time in a BS? Either way Id love your thoughts and Ill be absolutely open and state I have zero seat time with the 991 chassis and for that I apologize. So that will be fixed this weekend when I go over to my Pcar dealer but for now I know I can get some real world tangible thoughts from owners of both (I hope), owners of the 991 and driven the BS, or just 991 input.

Nice cars! I don't have any advice for you, but I do admire your cars.
Good to see you on here as well Vic, I can give you a little insight from my perspective. I've had a modded R8 V10 (Stasis chip/exhaust) as well as a modded C63 and biturbo CLS63 (Renntech) as well as a modded 997 GT2 so I don't have the breadth of experience w/ fast cars as you but I have some idea.
The 991 is a phenomenal chassis, far superior to 997 in nearly every way with perhaps the mild exception of steering feel. That said, it's light on torque, compared w/ the R8 V10 and especially the C63 BS, if you're ok with that I'd say go for it. It'll be a far better DD than either one, very compliant on the road (and I don't even have PDCC) but a scalded cat when you want it to be with sport+. Are you going to track it at all? I've done one day so far and doing my second one Monday, it's a remarkably good car on the track for as competent as it is on the street. It really is the best dual personality car I've had. As far as RWD vs. AWD, def go w/ the RWD, you already have the R8.

That's a tough call. To be honest with you, I'd keep the black series and trade the R8 instead. But then again, I have a soft spot for AMG black series in general.

Having the cars in my signature, I understand your passion.
My R8 is by far my favorite too. However, my 997TT is the fast car of the group.
I bought the Boxster S for my wife. However, now that it is nice here, I find myself driving it. Which brings me to my point...
I am also looking at 991's as well. I owned a 991 S Cabrio that was a 7 speed manual. I loved the car, but could not , not hit the steering wheel with my knee when I let off the clutch. Made me hate the car. If the wheel was not down, I was not comfortable. However, I am now thinking about a 991 S Cabrio in PDK.
Your AMG is going to be very quick. And the 991 is not. It rides great, the motor moved forward makes a huge difference in ride and how it handles. I think you will enjoy the car, and if you are going coupe, I would definatly go C4S for the stance and that tail light strip. I would on the CAB but I am already going up from a boxster to a 991, and there is only so much money to play with. I have to cut somewhere.
That being said, I say go for it. I know I got all off track here, but I think you will enjoy the car for now. Fall in love again, and end up in a 991 TT.

Thank for you those who have posted... I appreciate the honesty about the power change that I could have by dumping the BS but I also do believe power and straightline driving is not the end all (as you have stated as well)
My PDK 997.2 Turbo (Tune, Exhaust) was a blast out of the gate and very fast but I still like the R8 more- probably due to the sound it emits with the GMG GT exhaust. My 2009 GTR is one of the fastest cars Ive owned (medium modded with HKS 650 and injectors) but I didnt miss it when I got rid of it.
It seems one common denominator rings true; the 991 chassis is supreme.

It sounds like you are in a tough, yet awesome predicament. As someone who has spent the last four months with both a C63 and a (base) 991, I can tell you they are two totally different cars. The C63 is just brute force. Its kick-you-back-in-your-seat torque is incredible. Plus the sound is intoxicating. The 991 is more refined, elegant, with some great features and items. The PSE sounds great and makes this awesome "gurgling" sound. It seems more tossable in the turns.
They are both great cars. I was finally able to find someone to assume my C63 lease so I will be keeping the 991, but I think if I had the Black Series, I would probably stick with that. Just my humble opinion for what it's worth...
