Let's Play...You Solve the Puzzle
Also, look at it this way. Who is the company going to lay off? The snob in the brand new 911 who can obviously afford to look for another job, and whom we are probably paying too much in salary to if he can afford that car?
Or the guy who drives a 16 year old classic? The guy who is sensible to have something good, treat it nice, keep it for the long haul, etc.
993 screams dependable employee whom you really want to keep around....

I would stand pat with all your assets, take the bus to work until the restructuring is done and see where the pieces fall. I've seen janitor types become VP's, the top thinkers/workers trashed during some of the screwed up takeovers in this country. Don't assume anything logical will happen for a while at work but be ready when the **** hits the fan or everything is back to normal.

Anyway, I'd hope the people who decide look more at who is contributing the most to the company and what they are like as a person instead of looking at the carpark and lay off the ones who are driving nice cars.. (not that the 993 isn't nice, but you know what I mean) =)
Sometimes on forums people get sarcastic and try to be funny but mean no harm. Other times there are nasty people who just like stirring up trouble to see how much attention they can get. And, sometimes people's attempts at humor are quite revealing of their prejudices and their being judgmental. Whatever the case, some respondents have taken your question seriously and given some solid advice.
The facts are that frequently absorbed companies' employees are laid off as being redundant, as you so rightly fear might be the case with you. If you're seriously concerned, my advice still stands: sell your 991 before it continues to lose value. Whether you spend $50K on a 2013 S5 Cabrio or a $30K WRX, or if you bank your money and lease something for 3 years and limit your costs while leaving a sizable nest egg to fall back on, those choices are up to you. Selling the 993 would be the next resort, but only if financial pressure warrants it because it isn't a rapidly depreciating asset and still gives you some pleasure.
Wishing you the best and hoping it doesn't happen as you foresee it but instead becomes a non-issue.

As far as my original question, I'm honestly quite confident that I will land on my feet (whether it's with this company; a new company; or out on my own). The original question stems more from me being conservative in nature, wanting to make sure my family is always protected, and feeling a bit guilty having 2 911's and only a 10 minute commute.
I also think dropping the 991 is the most logical option. I think what might solve the 'problem' is to trade the 993 targa for a 993 C4S or Turbo that would be a better year-round vehicle given the AWD.
Thanks for the responses.

I remember your posts from the 997 forum . I can't advise what you ought to do but i can express what i would do . I would sell the 993 and would even wrestle with selling the 991 . The problem with the 991 sale is that the car has massively depreciated . That's why you may have to hang onto it .
It's too bad you didn't post this a week ago . I traded in my M3 and I found that my impeccable car was auctioned (Porsche dealership had no use for it I suppose) . It ended up at a Honda dealership and was sold in 2 days . I would have been an ideal used car (eliminate debt move) for a cold climate if you had found a buyer for the 991 .
You may have to sell the 991 eventually though . A 3 series is IMO a practical car with free maintenance , good safety, versatility , and wont make too many waves if you end up in a new job environment.
good luck in whatever you decide.
