Excessive options on this $166K 991 C2S?- me thinks so!
I understand your point, and somewhat agree. For some, it's the excitement of the eventual delivery of the spec'd car. Price is relative to the individual.
I, too, don't buy cars with the intention to resell them. I buy them to enjoy.
But a car that has an additional 2/3 cost in options? Don't you think they should just make these $0 cost options? I guess I am spoiled a little bit, but I don't see where these parts cost NEARLY what the asking price is (to me).
Doing business at the right place, at the right time, with the right people
and of course it doesn't come with sitting on my butt the whole day. You'll have to work hard to chase your dreams, but I love to do that. And yes you are right... It is nice. You won't hear me complain about that.

Without going in to details..... Let's say that I've been very lucky on that part.

I feel the biggest snag in over optioning a car is that the buyer will never see it in resale . In fact if he bought a 166K Turbo he'd see far more .
The guy who buys a 166K C2S and glances at the used pricing to see 2012 cars asking in 80's and 90's faces competing with the used car market at a huge disadvanatage . Some might say "who cares. i love my car , I worked hard for it .. etc .. yada yada " but my feeling is losing 50-80K a pop can get very old very quickly. Unless the buyer is a) obscenely wealthy , b) young and foolish, or c) old .. making this car the last hurrah .. it's a very expensive purchase which will become dated the moment that the 991.2 S refresh is launched .

Now, see, there is another aspect to this whole thing! As it sits right now, my C4S build sheet is @$167k w/ the powerkit and that's still $40k+ less than your option choices on a TT; so I can easily rest with the price of my build. (Not to be the least bit flippant about money loss, and I would agree with yrralis1 within the context of one who changes vehicles often.) Mine would be to keep until I drive the wheels off it. It's all relative, IMHO. It's a Porsche, not a Toyota, and still I believe it delivers much more bang for the buck and a rich heritage than most "supercars" priced 50k-100k+ more.
There there are those that think the Singer 911 is an abomination, and I OTOH, can't wait to get one of those, either. YMMV. No derailing of the thread intended...
