No, not a bit, lol. It is perfect! I friend of mine has it on a Carerra 4S and when I am behind her and she hammers it, it is heard 7 cars back. I think its a good safety thing too. Because when in sport mode you can hear it coming up in your blind spot. Think of Harley.
But it normal mode and just cruising its quiet for phone conversation. Build quality and factory support are excellent. And the price point is excellent compared to many as well! My video above is pretty right on, but in real life its lower in tone somewhat. The phone doesn't quite capture that aspect!
Are FVD and Cargaphic deeper sounding due to larger piping (2.75 va. 2.5 inch)?
I like the fact that AWE is louder in lower RPMS! 50% of our driving is below 3000 anyways
getting AWE switchpath installed tomorrow and removing the Fabspeed Valvetronic. Fabspeed is loud and raw. I'll post up a comparison review Tuesday, and the reason why I'm removing the Fabspeed.
The Fabspeed was definitely a little louder than the AWE with sport exhaust activated.
The AWE is super quiet and muffled with the sport exhaust deactivated. Much better than Fabspeed in quiet mode.
The AWE tone is better and less raw which I believe was one of the complaints from others regarding Fabspeed.
The gurgles and pops from the Fabspeed were pretty obnoxious and loud. The pops especially sounded like backfire from an old lincoln from the 80s or an old lawnmower. If you were in a car chase, be prepared to be shot at by the police because they mistake the exhaust pops with gunfire. That's how loud and unrefined the pops were especially from 1st gear to 2nd gear.
Lastly, Fabspeed was a nightmare dealing with. I bought the valvetronic used from another member who had it on his car for less than 3 months (had receipts to prove it). After 2 day of driving it on my car, an error message popped up and took it back to the dealer. The master tech said that driver side valve wasn't working, and that's what was giving me the weird coolant message. He said ithe exhaust came in pieces, and the valve should be easy to replace if I just let Fabspeed know.
I was first they wouldn't honor the 6 month warranty because I was the 2nd owner. Completely understand. Fabspeed has to make money and things could have been damaged during removal, shipping, install, etc.
Fine. I asked how much it would cost to just get a new valve then. I was initially told that they don't just sell the pieces and I would have to pay $2000 to replace the entire system. My master tech thought that was ridiculous especially because the valve was held by 3 bolts and not welded to the pipes. So he called and they said yes, they do have to valve in stock and can sell it separately. $500. I was about to pull the trigger and just buy it, but the other valve failing and the thought of spending another $500 plus labor scared me. The new valve wouldn't have a warranty either because I still was the 2nd owner of the system, so I told the dealer to remove it. It wasn't worth the worry of a valve failing or any other part of the exhaust for that matter.
The previous owner was nice enough to let me return it to him, so that he could deal with Fabspeed as the original owner.

Hey dkim12, how do you like / compare the AWE to PSE? I know you got the PSE at the end last year, why did you try these others? I have been leaning towards the AWE, currently have a 4S, non PSE cabriolet.
thanks!
I actually never had just PSE on my car before. I had heard it on a few cars and test drove one with it. From what I can remember, the AWE is as quiet with PSE turned off and a bit louder and deeper with more pops and gurgles with PSE on. Just having PSE wasn't going to be loud enough for me so I went with the xpipe instead of the factory muffler.
There is a video of the AWE exhaust note, but it the 911 was revving in the garage which made it sound louder that it really is. The same goes for the GTS in the showroom. The enclosed space makes any exhaust sound louder.
If you already have PSE, I would definitely hear the AWE in person or side by side to make sure it's worth the upgrade.

it's worth the upgrade. Coming from PSE and going to AWE's SwitchPath, the AWE is much, much louder and definitely attracts attention. It also changes the tone of the exhaust note a bit.
Lately I have been driving my GTS with the PSE valves closed because I find I hear more of the flat six sound. PSE valves open its a brilliant GTS NA sound, don't get me wrong, but I really like to hear the flat six - reminds me of my older air-cooled 911's. Not sure if anyone else finds this.
Are there any x-pipes that enhance the flat six sound versus just making it louder?

Absolutely, Panda. One of the things I've always been after is a way to force the valves to remain closed on our PSE cars. I would love to be able to hear the NA sound up to almost 8,000RPM, but it doesn't seem like it's an easy feat.
For some reason, though, my GTS with the AWE SwitchPath is less sensitive when it comes to the valves being forced open. I'll explain: the valves automatically pop open above 3,300rpm and with moderate throttle. On my 13 C2S, "moderate throttle" could literally be 10-20% throttle input.
Now, on the GTS, I can go over 50% throttle input and still keep the valves closed over 3,300rpm. It's interesting and, quite frankly, I enjoy it.
Re your question regarding x-pipes that retain sound, you're probably going to want to find something with a great deal of muffling/piping. As such, a straight x-pipe is definitely not what you're looking for. Most, if not all x-pipes will amplify the sound and give you a good amount of volume boost. Heck, most exhaust systems in general will give you a volume boost.
Cargraphic's Sport X (http://www.cargraphicts.com/index.php?id=141356&L=1) may get close to what you're looking for, as it is more muffled than their aggressive x-pipe I owned. Kit from our forums will definitely say, though, that it's still louder than the factory set.
Are you absolutely against a system making the exhaust note louder? If not, that Sport X may be worth your time. I would also check out Tubi's offerings, as I don't think their systems are overly aggressive.
