IMO, a hit so hard that would cause such damage to the sidewall might have also messed up your alignment and might have damaged the rim, even though not visible from the outside. When you get the tire replaced, have them thoroughly examine the wheel for any signs of cracking. As for alignment, you won't feel anything if it is out of alignment but you will eventually notice irregular or accelerated tire wear on both front wheels so it might pay to get the alignment checked.

good idea about alignment. yes there is no irregularities during driving, but these tires are expensive, a $150 alignment is well worth it!

not a defective tire. had the same thing on my 997 - these low profile tires are very easily damaged by potholes, etc. You need to replace the tire promptly as it is in a weakened condition and can easily blow on you. Be glad your car is so new - you only have to replace one tire. I had to replace both fronts because they had about 10,000 miles on them.

When purchasing my car, the F&I guy told me I could buy the insurance anytime within 30 days of delivery.

3600 total cost, for another wheel and tire.

Wheel and Tire protection, on these type cars, is a good idea.
You have to watch out for the quality of the work provided by the wheel repair shops used by the insurance companies. they "fixed" my classic 20 inch wheel twice: the first time the paint job was terrible; the second time they used the wrong color and the paint application was not great; the color was close but not right and contrasted with the center crest.

After I send large file photos to the insurance company they relented and replaced the wheel as it could not be stripped and painted again.

Seems to me that you have to explain your expectations to these guys in advance. My policy specifies that the wheel will be restored to "normal" and i patiently explained that "normal" Porsche parts are not the same as a "normal" honda or toyota part. Normal means perfect.

Agree with you here. You need to watch everything and expect "perfect". So many things are done "on the fly" and there seems to be less and less care and pride taken nowadays. It's "get it done fast, and go on to the next" instead of "get it done, make sure it is right, and don't go on to the next until it is right". Porsche owners are perfectionists, and normal does mean perfect!

the first thing i would do is contact good year.
last year i purchased a bmw that came with 245 40 19 good year ls2 run flats.
dealer f & i guy attempted to sell me tire and wheel insurance at a price that was ridiculous. i passed. went home that night inserted good year disc to review warranty coverage. my tires came with road hazard coverage provided by good year at no cost to me. damaged tires would be replaced at no cost in the first year, then pro rated based on wear for the next few years. in the event your tires are not covered good year might make you a good will offer to keep you happy. they would sell you at a replacement tire at possibly 50% off. check with them first and see how it goes.

your rim looks scuffed. there is no way to claim under tire warranty. those suggesting so have no principle and lie to get anything free

get new tire and move on. it's as simple as that
