Quality control

I found an article in our region's monthly magazine, written by a tech I highly respect, very interesting and thought I'd pass it on. He is the head tech at Plano Porsche in Dallas and has been working on Porsches for 41 years. A 2009 twin turbo came into the shop with a check engine light. After bore scoping the weak cylinder, they found oil leaking around a valve and pulled the engine. What was amazing was that they found an extra valve keeper in the problem valve spring area. They suspect it was in there from the original build because there were detailed service records on the car and it didn't look like the engine had ever been out of the car. He said in his 41 years he had only seen one other engine build issue and that was back in 1977 with a brand new car (blocked oil passage). Pretty good engine build quality control.

Thanks Chuck. I agree with the build quality of P cars. However I don't think the guys with brown spots under the clear coat will agree with the QC control.

Actually, Michael I was only talking about the engine. I completely agree with the disappointment with the paint spots. That is truly unbelievable and I look forward to hearing what is causing it.

Chuck,
You are probably in a better position than most to comment on QC of the engines. And as you well know, the air cooled engines ran forever and were almost bullet proof.

Sadly the same attention to detail now needs to be applied to other aspects of their production line.

It would be interesting to review prior models teething issues and if quality has in fact been compromised, or if the age of the internet has simply brought greater awareness to these issues.
