LED Headlights
LED Headlights
I am about to finish my build on a 2014 S Cab. I would like to know anyone's experience with the LED headlights vs. the Bi-Xenon.
I can't find anything online...and my dealer has no information besides what is on the Porsche website.
Does anyone have them installed? My dealer has NEVER put them on a 911. I'd like to see some pics from day/night and the differences.
Thanks!

There was also a discussion on a german forum. Long story short: No one has it on his car so far, but some have seen it in person. They say, the leds are like day and night compared to the xenons. Most of them decided to order the leds after seeing them. My salesman says the step from xenon to led is bigger than the one from halogen to xenon, but he is a salesman after all... :-)
First, I didn't had it in my configuration, because the xenons are pretty good already. Now, I changed my mind, because I think that better lights improve comfort and security. That makes it a more resonable expense than the aluminum pedals e.g., which I also wanted to have. And - as led is going to be the standard very soon - it makes sense regarding value conservation.

Headlights are obviously needed to see ahead at night. Depending on your speed, you need enough light coverage to see the road and any obstacles that may be present. Depending on where you live and the ability to travel at high speed, the faster you can go requires a beam that will accomplish this visibility. On some unlit, European roads (autobahn, autostrada) it is possible to settle in at 120 mph or more. That means you are moving at 2 miles a minute. Obviously your light requirements are very high at that speed.
The decision to get LED's or Xenons should be based on which light will give you the visibility you need for your type and speed of night driving. Now, if you like the effects of one over the other, that's a different discussion.
I can not tell you which type will give you the greater distance visibility.

Something that is not often mentioned in LED-discussions on several forums, but certainly worth mentioning:
The LEDs are not just a couple of LEDs instead of the Xenon headlights. It also comes with PDLS+, which is an ugrade on the optional PDLS that you can get on the Bi-Xenon headlights.
It adds High Beam Assist, which recognizes oncoming vehicles and automaticly switches from high beam to low beam. The camera used by this system (mounted in the rearview mirror) is also used to further enhance the features of the dynamic headlight range control.
Last but not least, the LED headlights come with the 4-point daytime running lights, which adds a nice optical enhancement IMO. The LEDs are definitely worth considering.

Led
I switched to the LED for my build for the reasons Suzy 991 outlined about the PDLS+. It has auto high beam dimming and some other nice features that justified the high incremental cost of 1500-1600USD over the Xenons. Some folks were getting confused and thought cost was 3000 grand but if you look closely it isn't that high.
At night with Xenons I get annoying flashes from other drivers many times who think my high beams are on that dazzle you. The LEDs are supposed to avoid this.
My nightvision is bad and I live in an area with a lot of deer and drive back roads. I thought it was probably worth it. Hitting one deer at night is lot more costly than $1500!!!

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to go with the LED lights. I wish there was a video like nmurray22's on deviated stitching for these things so you could see them in realtime....

In U.S. it's actually $2,340 additional cost on top of the PDLS, which costs $770. And it's worth every bit of it!
its funny...... when u add the prem pk plus to the 911-s, the led headlights still cost $3110.
also can anyone confirm that the 4 DRL show up on the headlights for the C2/C2S cars. when i asked my dealer he said that is only on the GT3/Turbo cars..... but of course no one has seen a non-turbo version with LED's in person.

That's the price for the blacked out Bi-Xenons.... Bi-Xenon is standard on the 991, only PDLS is an option that costs $770.
Yes I can confirm that the 4-point DRL also is for the Carrera cars. There are already several cars out there with the LED headlights. They started building those cars in june, so the first ones are delivered.
The picture I posted some posts ago from the LEDs is actually taken by a member of his own car. He is active on this or another forum (unfortunatly can't remember) and that was a GT-silver C2S equipped with the LEDs.
Regarding the price with premium package... You're right, very strange. I think it's an bug in the configurator.

The bi xenon PDLS lights are absolutely amazing. We live in a semi rural area with roads that were originally native America footpaths The lights follow the turns and turn night into day. I suppose the LEDs must be incredible
Regarding retrofitting the LEDs, I doubt if that would be possible, because of the camera that comes with the system. But who knows... Maybe it doesn't need that camera..
