rock gouge

So driving on the expressway earlier this week, and a truck picked up a rock and tossed it my way. Nicked the hood dead center, and left a small chip right down to bare metal (with a bit of a jagged raised edge even).

I'm not too pissed (I care mostly about avoiding dents and big scratches). Rock chips are to be expected.

Anyone recommend a touch up paint / method that will hide it reasonably well? (does the Dr ColorChip work?)

I'll have it professionally taken care of in a year or two when there are more to be addressed.

Sorry to hear about the damage. Dr. Color Chip won't take care of the missing paint in the chip, just color the metal. I would get some touch up paint at the dealer (until you can get it professionally taken care of.

Interestingly, I had the same thing happen to me the other day. It was about a 1 1/2" jagged rock that was thrown up. I swerved and it hit my left rear fender at the protected area. It made a horrible sound and went right through the protection, but I'm thinking if I get a little touch up paint and redo the protection piece it should be okay.

Do I need to use primer on the bare metal, since it is aluminum? Or just the touch up paint?

To keep it simple, just dab a little touch up paint with a touch up stick or toothpick. If you want it to be better, simply mix equal parts paint and clear, they come separate from Porsche, then built up the chip little by little. You dab some paint, let it dry and shrink, dab some more, until you're almost level.

GrayBlack is infamous around these parts
I'd recommend a clear bra after your touch up so you don't have to worry in the future.
