My last 911 was full leather. Does one get full olfactory satisfaction today with partial leather seats? Has Porsche engineered the smell as well as the sound? I'm pretty far from a dealership so that's why I'm asking.
I had a 996 Turbo which had full leather. I also had a 996 Cab with partial and I was fine with it. I then purchased a 991 with partial leather and thought parts of it looked really cheap (like the dash). I now have full leather and love it. I would not purchase a 991 without it...
It's certainly a personal thing, but I agree that the full leather interior just looks better. The small details of visible stitching is what does it for me. The 'feel' of both interiors is quite nice actually, and I can't say that the smell is all that different. Maybe a bit more leathery in the full leather, but the standard interior is very high quality.

Once you've tried full leather and revert back to partial i agree u notice the differences. Now that my c2s is full, whenever I drive a partially covered one I just cant help notice the plasticy feel of the dash and doors..a bit of a let down (but luckily) only happens when the vehicle comes to a stop as you're usually enjoying the drive!!

Before I got deep into my build decisions I originally wasn't going full leather.
Just normal leather seats.. Then once I finally started test driving with and without... the decision was finalized for me.. there was no going back... it is night and day..
The major difference is the dash, which looks really nice in leather.. Personally I don't see the need for most of the additional leather packages (although I've been thinking about the center console) as those aren't items I notice much.. I can see why people like them (fuse covers, steering column etc) it's just the cost to value of that isn't as significant to me.. I think with the extra $2k or so in going from full leather seats to full leather interior is easily worth it to me.. (although you get forced into the premium packages when you do which is an extra $600, which basically gets you PDLS which is worthless to me). So my cost is $2.6K extra.. But if you start adding the additional packages it adds up quick...
I still see a bunch of folks at times around hear saying it is overkill to them. There seems to be a faction that want's a much more spartan interior and don't like 911's becoming more luxury oriented.. And I guess it is the perspective of where you are coming from and your esthetic.

While I do like the full leather, my car is not a dd, and is optioned on the pure, sporty, spartan side. I love it this way. Don't miss the full leather at all. Alcantara roofline is stock by the way !
I ordered and drive what I wanted and am not manufacturing a used car for some lucky future theoretical buyer
Bottom line, if you're keeping it, buy what you want and ignore the resale value
That said, did anyone else see the How It's Made TV Porsche episode. I was particularly struck by the segment where the seamstresses were applying the decorative stitching to the leather interior Each sewing machine had a variety of colored threads. Deviated stitching, at extreme cost, appears to be no more effort than to send a memo to the sewing machine operator. For what they charge, you could fly to Germany, stay in a five star hotel, hire an interpreter, Drive to the factory and ask the operator to switch threads.
The nice thing about ordering your Porsche is that you can have exactly what you want. Those pricey options are rarely rewarded with high resale value.

Porsche does ask rediculous prices for these options, but as long as we all are willing to pay that amount of money, they do their job right. I've been at the Exclusive department in Zuffenhausen and saw how the interiors are made. Options like the extended leather package for dashboard or the PCM package in leather, for example take a lot of work to cover the parts in leather. That said... i don't think it costs as much as they're asking, but it's a business and they need to make profit... As much as possible and these kind of options are ideal to make lots and lots of profit.
The customers that want that deviated stitching and all that stuff (like me), are willing to pay that much extra. I rather spend extra on the interior than on a Powerkit or PCCB. I don't really care about the resale value, even if I drive the car only 2 or 3 years, but as a daily driver I want it to be as comfortable and luxurious as possible. If I had to order and drive with the resale value in mind, I wouldn't even buy the car. It takes away the fun for me.
But like someone said before... That is the beautiful thing about Porsche. There is one for everyone. You can order a very basic car and just enjoy the pure fun of driving the 911 or you can transform it in to a luxurious, pretty comfortable sports GT, but still be able to enjoy the fun of driving, by hitting the Sports+ button. It's the most versatile sportscar out there.
There truly is no substitute
