Cam belt sensor issue - any updates
Cam belt sensor issue - any updates
Does anyone have any update on the fix by PCNA about the cam belt sensor? A bunch of owners were facing unexplained stalls and cars dying then restarting again after 10 to 20 mins. A few threads were talking about the issue and last I heard from another member was that PCNA was aware of the issue and working on a fix or bulletin. Any updates?
The Cam Position Sensor seems to be the culprit - but no official fix or bulletin as of yet.
There was also a case of where an owner had a spacer was used to adjust location of the CPS, which seemed to resolved the problem.
Not sure if a bulletin only kicks in when the issue reaches critical mass.

Spoke to 2 of the Porsche dealers in Philly and one told me that the internet forums are bs and a waste of time. The other, Porsche Conshohocken, knew exactly what I was talking about and said that PCNA Technical knows about the issue and they spent a week with a customer car diagnosing and fixing the issue. The regional PCNA Tech rep is back in town next week and they will let me know when to bring the car in. My car has only stalled 2 times in the last year, once during a service test drive and once last night when the car refused to turn over and only did so after I left it for a few minutes.
This forum has been great in terms of the wealth of information sharing amongst owners.

Sounds similar to my issue. Today marks day 15 that the dealer and PCNA have been trying to fix my problem. They have sent a new gearbox and if this fixes it, I hope to get it back tomorrow.
Check out the other thread 'Transmission'.

Yes - these internet forums with its thousands of real-world drivers from all over the world, sharing their experiences and solutions in real-time, are BS are a waste of time.
Sounds like someones ego and job security was threatened by your knowledge.
As for the need to cool down before restarting issue, it is clearly an expansion / contact issue.
A few years ago my 993 C4S died on me (and wouldn't restart) while crossing a major intersection. Fortunately it was MT and I could turn the engine over with my foot halfway off the clutch, rolling the car to safety.
As far as I'm concerned this is a significant safety issue.

Yeah, sometimes the techs don't like being second guessed or notified of a problem they are not aware of.
And yes this can be a safety issue. Stalling at a light, in an intersection, myriad of situations where it can be a huge incident.

Chup,
No issues like the ones you faced with the transmission. When I described the symptoms in detail, the service manager agreed that it was most likely the cam sensor. The only reason he knew about it was that they just fixed the issue for another customer, which took them a week to diagnose. According to him, there has been no campaign by PCNA bc the issue has affected so few cars and the issue in the affected cars has been so sporadic that a lot of times, the service guys cannot even try to replicate the issue.
He told me a sensor replacement is a quick and easy job.

Hope your issue is resolved soon.
Realistically the cars in whatever group should be taken out of commission and flat bedded to dealerships with parts. But PCNA won't come down on the "don't drive your car" side until they get told what the problem is, what cars are affected, and what the fix is for whatever production date/VIN group by Germany. No one has a problem until Germany tells them they have a problem. In fairness to the individual dealerships they really may not know anything until they see a car with the problem. PCNA & Germany seem to keep these guys pretty much in the dark and isolated based on what I have seen and heard.
