Rolled fender lips from factory?
Rolled fender lips from factory?
I have a 991S X51 Cab and ordered the Sport Techno wheels from the factory. When I look at both front and rear fenders the fender lips seem to have been rolled at the factory? Has anyone else noticed this and also, of course, are those cars with other than the Sport Techno wheels coming with rolled fender lips?

Carrera S III wheels here.
Fenders are only slightly rolled to about a 135 deg angle.
It's not a near 180 deg roll like you might see done by a wheel shop.
How, heavy is the roll on your ST wheel equipped car?
I'm planning to upgrade to those wheels.

Some cars have a metal flange that runs the inside of the fender arch. You can feel it when you put your hand inside and feel around the perimeter of the arch. "Rolling" the fenders uses a special tool that pushes that flange up and against the inside of the fender arch. Doing so buys you another half inch or so of clearance and sometimes it's needed to allow for aggressive offsets. If I am not mistaken all of the 997's have a rolled fender from the factory.

The "roll" is on the inside of the fender opening. If you ran your finger along the inside of the opening on an older Porsche, you would feel the the sheet metal protruding in from the edge for about a 3/8 in or so at 90 degrees to the opening. If you put a wider wheel and tire on and lowered the car the tire would rub against the metal there. The fix was to roll that edge up to get more clearance. It could be done gently with a baseball bat and often was on the spot when I was doing DEs back in the late 1980s.
Todays Porsches come the sheet metal bent up at about 170 degrees, providing more room to the tires at the opening.
