Fixing stone chips, final method...

I'm with you there, but if I'm going to get it repainted anyway, I will try to see how it comes out. Then let the body shop fix it if I really mucked it up.
I fixed perhaps 20-30 on the bumper (most are very small and I just fill them wth new paint with a tooth pick and don't worry about sanding etc). A few bigger ones and one really big one that also took out some of the bumper plastic (needed a bit of filling).
Three on the bonnet thus far - all needed proper fixing and I am happy with the result.
One on the windscreen - but very small. Just cleaned it and gave it a drop of super glue.
I'm not sure about the bumper - There is only one layer of thin paint, no primer. It chips real easy. The bonnet paint is much stronger, is much thicker and also has a primer.
I'm not a fan of bra wraps - been thinking of having the bumper resprayed with proper primer and a thick protective clear coat. That would go a long way.
In the meantime, I just quickly fix any new chips every few weeks. Make it a Saturday. Gives me a reason why I can't mow the lawn...
Why so many chips ? Most are definitely as result of overtaking trucks - I can hear the impacts if I get too close so the trick is to move over for the overtake waaay back.
The first chip is always the worst - after that it's almost OK and expected. But since I now have a reasonable way of making them go away I'm not too bothered anymore.

My first chip repair I redid perhaps 5 times (have thinners handy to get rid of the previous repair). Each time I tried a different way learning from mistakes and trying new methods. Eventually I learned what works and what does not - that was the reason for my post it gives a starting point for others without having to start from scratch.
BTW, I found body shops most sectretive about their repair methods. Most don't recommend chip repairs (too time consuming, can't get 100% fix etc). But I got a good number of valuable hints from one guy from a body shop while we where both waiting for our paint to be mixed and I let him sit in the 911...

I guess I am lucky in that I drive in places that does not put me in that situation often.
This is my first clear bra but so far I like it. I am chipless in the areas you are having trouble with but my windshield is showing some nicks.

Yes, my windshield is showing tons of nicks too. I think Porsche uses a soft glass, because I cannot remember getting so many nicks on all my other cars combined . . .
