Can the tach face be changed?
Can the tach face be changed?
Spoke with my Porsche service tech and he wasn't sure they could change the tach face to black from the factory gray. Is this a Porsche parts change or only aftermarket? Has anyone done this yet? Interested to hear.
The tach comes standard in alum look unless you order the black as a no charge option. I didn't know that when I ordered my car. I think it looks terrible when all the other dials are black so I've been trying to do the same thing. My dealer said he could get me the black face through Porsche Exclusive and that he had an excellent vendor to open the instrument cluster and do the swap, all for under about $300. That was about 3 months ago. Every time I question my dealer about the status he says don't worry, Porsche Exclusive is slow but it will show up. At this rate my lease will be up by the time the tach shows up.
If anyone has a better way to do this, I'm all ears.

I022 = Black-coloured Instrument dials, Instrument cluster.
I023 = Silver-coloured Instrument dials, Instrument cluster.
I got I023, but only the tach is silver, all other gauges are black.
So that option description is misleading.
If you have a way to get the tach changed for $300, I am all ears.
I checked, and a new I022 cluster [99164114613A05] is $2500

So $300 sounds like a deal.
You mind asking your dealer to order some extras

No I went through this when putting together my build. Suzy finely straightened me out...
If you do nothing gauges are black with the silvery/grey tach... This is for the both c2 and c2s and I believe for the c4s as well..
Gauges in black option which is $0 option makes the tach black like rest of gauges..
Or you can pick white, yellow or red for all gauges Which is about an $800 option.. Another $500 for the sport chrono.
No diff between s's and non s's

Suncoast selles gauge face in various colors (black is not listed, but I am sure they could help): http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...iorAccessories
I have already taken the instrument cluster apart and, if you are really cautious, it is feasible as a DIY (I did not document it, but started from a 997 DIY and the 991 is not very different).

Yep you are right the silver/grey is only standard on the S..
I'm not sure I've heard too many people ever express a preference for the silver/grey.. But I guess it must have some popularity since it is standard on the S...

The silver/grey tach face only comes standard on the S. The regular base 991 tach face is black. Check with your dealer. There was a thread a while back from S owners regretting not getting the black tach as the silver face is hard to read in most conditions and C2 owners not having this issue bc their techs come in black as standard.

This is really interesting..
I debated white vs black faces... and ended up going with black.. but for some reason I wish I had gone white.. At the time $860 for the white and then another $500 for white for the chrono just seemed... more than I wanted to spend on that...
So how difficult is taking the instrument cluster apart.. For someone who is indeed mechanically inclined.. does it come apart without inherently goober-ing it up?

This thread can also help once the instrument cluster is removed: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ials-help.html
It is all a matter of patience. If you are careful and never use brute force, it is not too complicated.
