Couple questions for folks in the NYC tri-state area

Hi all,

I ordered a C4S in November and slated to take delivery end of Jan/early Feb. This will be my first p-car(I cant wait!)! I've been lurking in the forums for the past month trying to read up on as much info over here, which has been very informative, so thank you everyone.

I've listed a couple of things I'm looking to get done after I get the car and want to see if anyone has any experience/advice, or can recommend a installer:

1.Looking to get the Front Bumper Wire Mesh Grill Kit 5PC from rennline
2.Xpel Ultimate install
3.Winter wheels/tires - I only use my car on the weekends and unlikely when it snows, do you think I can get away with the stock summer tires all year round in NYC area?
4.Radar install - currently looking at the Passport 9500ci
5.Which dealer in the NYC/LI area is best for service?

Thanks for reading.

Regarding clear bra and radar install, you should contact Detailing Dynamics in Long Island.

I live in the city, run stock summer tires and manage to drive most weekends (not my DD). Warning though: if it snows forget it on those tires, surely even with a C4S (I have a C2S), so this will depend on how much driving you want/need to do.
I used to go to the dealer where I bought the car north of the city but they were terrible. For the last year or so I have switched to Manhattan Motorcars who for me have been great every time.

I am waiting for my 991 to get delivered from the port right now, so I cant say specifically on the P-car, but I have had several M3s living in NYC. From my experience, if you are going to drive the car at all in the winter, you need winter tires. It isn't necessarily the snow, its the temperatures - once it gets below 45 or so, summer tires are useless. They get hard, and lose grip. Forget about risking your $100K+ car for a couple of thousands of dollars in winter tires, think about your safety.

Check out about half way down the first page on this - http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=910975

Town Motors in Englewood is also great for service. Manhattan Motors is very good but crowded and super expensive.
Summer tires work well enough in sub 40 temps if it's dry out, you warm them up first, and you add a dose of caution (which you should do on winter tires in cold temps too). As others have noted, in the wet though, it's a different ballgame. Not as bad as the M3 which is known to be a nightmare in any adverse condition (even summer rain), but still not safe.

Biggest reason to get Winter tires for driving in temps under 45 F - Liability.

If you are driving in sub 45 degree weather and get in an accident, you are potentially liable for negligence for driving on tires which are not appropriate for the conditions.

I would also suggest Detailing Dynamics. Tell Eddie, Jeff with the TTS cab sent you. Eddie did my clear bra, and my install of the 9500CI setalth install. All the readouts are in the mirror and the controls in the ash tray.

He can do everything on you list and you will not need to worry about the quality of the work or damage to your car. Only guy I met who is as attentive to detail as I am.

As far a tires go, I never realized that these tires turn to hockey pucks when it gets very cold. Car will slide and spin more than you expect. If I DD mine I would need different tires.

I use Porsche of Roslyn for service. So far they have been excellent. If you need and intro let me know they are fair by Porsche $ standards.

I would avoid Porsche of Huntington. Search the forum where a guy has his car in for service and a mechanic posted several launch on the Net.

In all fairness to porsche of Huntington I have no proof it was them, but I would not take a chance, and I will steer clear of them and if I were U I would want to know what I know.

On your question # 3, if you're only going to be driving the car on weekends and don't mind leaving it at home when it's snowy or even just very cold and dry, then you won't need to switch wheels/ tires. However, be warned that the summer tires turn into veritable hockey pucks in 40's degree or colder temps.

Guess where I am getting the car from? Should I be worried here?
