forgot to mention radar

Oh, forgot to mention...have a escort 9500 installed in my 911...what a godsend I don't think you can do a roadtrip without one---save my but at least 6 times...basically 85% of KA Band warnings were cops, and it would give me plenty of time to slow down (from very fast speeds mind you)...I even got lasered a few times and it laser shifted for me and I was able to reduce my speed in time....

ha!

Now I'm thinking that fate wants me to keep my 911 close at hand..even in the winter! but if I ever need to ship my car somewhere Ill think of you...that being said, if you like driving, driving a 911 is just a dream come true...

Its awesome to see you getting your moneys worth out of the car.
What makes it handle good in dry, helps it handle well in snow too.

Im so inspired by this, that I offer to drive your car back to Florida for you, so you can maintain your original plan.

BTW - You must be an excellent driver to handle those roads.
Dont give the car all the credit.

I agree that tires make a huge difference. I put some winter shoes on my 991 (I'm also from Chicago).

Last year there was a late March storm and I had to drive to St. Louis for some urgent business. Traffic was going about 30 mph on I-55, and everyone was using a single lane. I saw a guy in my rearview mirror in a Cayman that was being very agressive. I decided to snap a cell phone pic of him agressively passing, in case he later caused an accident. As luck would have it - just as he got in front of me and tried to cut back into the well traveled lane he lost it. The attached pic shows him going into the median...... tires make a huge difference, but there is still no cure for stupid.

I am impressed...nice story. Do you think there would have been any benefit from a 4S? Its a dilemma I currently have as I really want a 2S but cant decide if an extra 5K is worth the 4S, its not a DD for me.

absolutely....I was safe enough with the winter tires..but if I had been driving anything but totally carefully, slowly, and honestly scared I think I would have been in a ditch too...!

i dont think the 4 s is worth it

I don't think it makes sense to go for the 4S, at least for me...and I live in Chicago....unless you perhaps live in Canada or some Nordic country where it dumps snow all the time...for the occasional snow storm, in any major US city where the trucks are out salting and plowing, I think the C2S with snow tires is more than enough....

Thanks for sharing and providing reassurances to those out there who seem to be of the belief this car cannot comfortably handle the elements.
I'm really not sure why the fallacy of it being a Weather Princess persists.

Why folks are bewildered by the fact that these cars can comfortably handle rain and snow is beyond me.

Even a Land Rover Defender with snow chains can be spun if driven by the moronic or uninitiated..

Great story, and epic trip. Agree with you on how comfortable the 991 is for such a high performance car. And also agree that with proper snow tires, a C2S handles beautifully in the snow/ slush/ cold and wet conditions.

Cool story. Glad you guys got back safely.
I took my family out for a drive this past weekend. It was only an hour but my 10 year old son was complaining by the end. Could be just him but I thought he'd last a couple of hours at least.
