help decide on C4 vs C2S

my e92 m3 will most likely go next month, and I need help deciding on either a C4 or a C2S. I live in a cold and snowy climate 6 months of the year, but I really don't need 4wd. Its flat and we have good tires - my M3 has been excellent and I have a second DD.

Both cars are PDK and has PSE and similarly equipped.

Main difference would be PASM and SC on the C2S.

Almost identically priced - as the 2S has about 10K miles more on it.

thanks for any input from any possible owners, cross shoppers or anyone who has tried both!

C2S with winter tires for snow. Not even close.

I am only a C2S driver in the SouthEast US but I have spent my first 37 years living and traveling through (mostly Northern) Europe. Not much in Norway though
I was recently at a Porsche event where they did a demo of a C2 vs a C4 on the skidpad. With good winter tires and winter driving skills, you would indeed have no more problems with a C2S than with your M3. The handling of the C4 on a slippery surface is amazing though. You would definitely be faster and safer in a C4 6 months a year, especially if you find out that the 991 is such a great car that you want to daily drive it (same thing happened to me, minus the bad weather. I was thinking about keeping my S4 or a GTI as DD and ended up selling the Audi and giving the VW to my son...).

My vote, rather than my experience , would be to go for an all year round fully enjoyable C4 rather than sacrificing winter performance -and a bit of safety- and closing the power gap between C4 and the C2S during the summer.

Any C4S with less options that would be in the same price range? This car is definitely about driving, so an upgraded audio system or full leather are secondary considerations to me.

Just my 2 cents

To the OP, I came to a unexpected conclusion. 6 months a year in cold and snow spells C4. But you have another DD. I was about to say ditch the DD and enjoy the C4 all year round. But then I noticed the C4 didn't have PASM. So no go for the C4, PASM is a must have ! That leaves the C2S and your DD !

thanks a lot guys!

the C2s is also in my top priority color agate grey w blk interior.

but the C4 has the sport design steering wheel w the paddle shifts, whereas the C2s has the buttons - which HAS to be upgraded to the paddle one.

here are links to both objects I've set my eyes on:

http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/obj...nkode=44790499

as for prices I'm not sure if you want to know but the NOK/USD exchange rate is about 6, so just divide those by 6.....

with that in mind my 08 M3 gives me about 135K back.

i know, so crazy...

Between those two, the black C4 is better looking though ...

if you think you can drive the RWD car safely in the snow I would go c2s.
Hell, splurge and get c4s - you wont regret it

Good Lord! $200k for a used C4 or C2S
I have a Danish friend and he told me about taxes in his country, but I was hoping other countries up North may get a break.
What about this: Sell you M3 and the rest of your stuff and with what you'll get for it, you can move to a sunny place in the Southeast with (almost) 12 months of sun, a much bigger house and a brand new 991 with all the options you like. Been there, done that (not because of the Porsche )and have been happy since then. Will probably move somewhere else eventually, but totally enjoying it!

More seriously, the C2S is better equipped, replacing the steering wheel is ~1,000USD (hopefully the same in Norway) and ~15,000km difference on the odometer is nothing for a Porsche. So if you do not mind have to go a bit slower during the winter, follow your heart and get the C2S. You can always negotiate and ask the Porsche center to throw in a new sport steering wheel !

FWIW I live in a region notorious for bad snowstorms, this year being no anomaly, and I have been daily driving my 991 c2 with no issues whatsoever (western new york roughly 1.5 hrs from Toronto,CA for reference). I am running michelin alpins ($1750 installed around here) and I have nothing but high praise for them.

The only issue you can run into is ground clearance. If your roads are adequately cleared then I would not hesitate to get the c2s. You have done it with the bmw, the porsche will be no different (my mother drives her e90 in the winter up here daily).

C2S is better equipped and has full leather and Sport Chrono.
Furthermore, the good people of Norway know how to drive in the snow, so go for the C2S and enjoy.

I simply do not understand this notion that the C2(S) is problematic in the snow.

With the right set of tires and proper driving intelligence, you'll be just fine.

Pls remember to post pictures...

Went to Porsche Camp4 last year and got great experience in both the C2 and C4S in the snow and icey conditions. I was surprised to leave with the impression that the C2 was the more fluid and fun car. The C4S could be pushed harder in those conditions if you knew its limits but the C2 just felt more natural. I am a fan of both the 3.4 and 3.8 engines but I also like some of the nice interior touches like full leather etc so the C2S would be my pic here.

Noticed you're from Norway. I'd get C4.

thanks everyone for all the feedback!

went for a testdrive in the grey c2s today, and could write several pages with praise, but you all know what im talking about!

one thing though, I was very pleasantly surpriced with the low end torque coming from my M3, fearing the worst after reading some reviews here.

however, there was something odd with it, idle was very low and super rough, the whole var shaked, and when taking off as carefully as possible it lurched forward quite violently and the pdk reminder me a little about my old e46 smg. untill i got going where it all smoothed out.
it even threw some codes and engine fault lights..

it somehow got better as the car progressiveøy got warmer, but still low and rough idle especially in normal..it felt like it almost wanted to stall on me a couple of times..?

informed the dealer and he said it was probably because it had been sitting still on the showroom floor for a couple of months..and they would check it out..

any advice??
