Looking for Tesla Model S feedback
Hello all,
I'm going to drive a model S this weekend, but I was curious to hear feedback from others. Is it an exciting car to drive? 911 owners IMHO are the group of drivers who can most appreciate and endorse the idea that acceleration alone does not make a car exciting.
How does the tesla feel and handle in the real world?
Thanks for any feedback

I have about 3000 miles on my P85+ and I could not be happier..................
I have had a 97 TTS a Stradale.. and waiting on a CS
Obviously you can't put the Tesla in the TTS or Stradale league
But if you are looking at the whole package it has it...
Ride is fantastic
Technology is awesome...
Torque endless......
Really fun to drive ( sorry purists)
I think it is a great balance if anyone has the means to have both....
And I wasn't sold until we took a test drive..... I was done after 20 minutes in the S........

Just a subjective reply, as I haven't driven a Tesla Model S yet..., I have been very interested in the Tesla Model S since it came out, and I like the level of technology that they have manage to insert into their platform. Hopefully, there might be a trend here for other manufacturers to follow??? Being able to receive over-the-air software updates is pretty cool! Plus I like the capabilities that the Tesla smartphone apps bring to the user.
But..., the Model S is big, and heavy. Here's a comparison to a 991 C2S with PDK
Length: 196" (T), 176" (P)
Width: 86" (T), 71" (P)
Weight: 4647 lbs (T), 3120 lbs (P)
The Tesla may be very quick, with lots of (endless?) torque, but I don't think you are going to get that immersive, wrap around interior (****pit), fits you like a glove, intimate connection with the road driving experience. But then again, it's not trying to be a Porsche, it's trying to be a Tesla; an everyday, very sporty vehicle, that just happens to be an electric car.

I'm also curious about the Tesla S.
We are looking at replacing our current family vehicle (as the family shrinks again - kids growing up and moving out), and only need seating for 4/5, focusing on relatively nearby travel. I can't think of a better purpose for it.
I am cross-shopping a 300S, Panamera (V6), Jaguar XFR, and now that new Maserati... (yes, I'm all over the place, but I've got some spare change to play with, so why not?)

I think most would be pretty happy with the drive....... and the performance is easy to like as well.
The charging would be more of an issue if used as a daily driver for me....
But I didn't put a charger in my home as I don't drive it every day. Just a 240 with a 40 amp breaker is fine for my use............................................... ...
I will be interested in your feedback after your drive.......
And anyone else for that matter..... I am a little biased

No personal experience or point of view to share. I guess most of you have watched this review. Posting just in case:
They are praising the Tesla S, but they also say that if you are looking for a sedan+sportscar experience, you should go for a Panamera.

I have been obsessed with the Model S for a long time.
To think that you can have a car that is luxurious, sporty, has all the amenities of a Mercedes or BMW, but doesn't use a single drop of gas is something that sounds amazing to me!
I would LOVE to own one!

I've been out for a ride in a couple of them. Smooth and the instant torque makes you giggle.
The interior is dominated by the large touchscreen that controls almost everything. Some may like that simple design element, some may not. The interior doesn't have the artistic design and curves of other luxury models which accommodate the switches, etc.
I like it a lot, but I also like the visceral feel of a IC powertrain.

Family in California owns a white one and when were there last november, I got the oppertunity to drive the car a couple of times.
I was very, very sceptical before I drove it. Mostly I do like new technologie, but somehow I don't like hybrid and electric cars (I even have trouble liking the 918), but I will admit, that the Tesla really surprised me, after I got used to the "gas pedal". Kinda strange experience that you can drive, almost without touching the brake pedal.
The torque is of course great, but also the complete package is good. The car looks great, feels pretty well built (choice of materials could be a bit more luxurious IMO) and it handles very well too...
I really do understand why people like the car.
Unfortunately the infrastructure isn't good enough here in Europe for a fully electric car IMO, or at least not yet, but the whole concept seems to be the first fully electric car that might actually work (as long as you have a garage, in Big European cities, recharging might become a problem).
I would not choose it over a German sedan (yet), but it definitely has changed my mind about electric cars.
Strange thing is that the car somehow looks better in the US, than it does here. I spot them sometimes on the road here, but for some reason it looks so much bigger than it does in the US (probably because there's less space and more smaller vehicles on the road here... I dunno).

Not picking on you or on Europeans (I am one of them) Suzie

I like the Technical package of the Tesla but I totally hate that the government has decided to use my taxpayer money to fund it
The only upside I see is that a few fellow 6speeders could at least benefit from what we paid for it.
Good for Tesla for not being Prius. But, in addition to Serge's concerns, which I share, I worry that we are trading one environmental disaster for another. The battery technology is improving, but it relies on metals that have to be mined and refined - neither industry is known for their environmental record. And the chemical reactions that allow batteries to work are not known to be environmentally friendly either. Where do we dump all of these batteries when they discharge for the last time? What do we do with the chemical waste?
When true fuel cell technology comes along, and the waste is water, I am all in. Until that point, petrol head for me.

1) beautiful looking car (aesthetically) .
2) tremendous torque and fast
3) road noise worse than my boxster
4) not very nimble or agile . feels heavy .
5) amazing technology
6) interior quality is ok but not exceptional
It's not perfect and at 115K + or so it ought to be.

I think they are pretty awesome cars and they always catch my eye. I keep kidding myself that I am going to buy one just so it can share the garage with my 1970 GTO Judge, which was built in the Fremont, CA plant - same place where Teslas are built today.
Just as a bit of irony, the first Tesla I ever got an up-close look at was in the parking garage of my old employer, located in...Edison (NJ)
