Buying out of state?
Hi guys-
OK, it looks like this will be the spring for me to get my first 911. I'm looking at finding a slightly used '13 Cab. Something with super low miles. Manual please. I'm seeing some really nice ones spread around the country. I asked my local dealer if they trade with dealers so I can buy it from my local dealer. He didn't sound very reassuring. My question is should I just find the car at the price I like, fly out and buy it where ever that is? I'd like to buy one from my local guy but there's little chance he'll have the exact car I want. More likely it's somewhere else.
Have any of you guys bought yours this way? Any issues? Do I pay the sales tax of the state I purchase in or do I still pay MN tax?
Thanks much! Lot's of questions.

Generally speaking, you pay sales tax in your home state where you register the car. If it was to be paid where you bought it, everyone in my neck of the woods would buy their cars in Delaware (no sales tax).
Best of luck on your search.

You only pay your own state taxes.
I live in MD.
They attach a Transit Tag/Permit.
Bought my last 2 Porsches in NY, different dealers.
Flew to both, first time I saw each.
PPI done at a different dealer.
Bought my Vette in NC,...same deal...flew down.
Works out if you do your homework.
The NC dealership picked me up.

My last two sports cars, I made it a point to fly out to see and drive the car, was there when PPI was being done, and had an opportunity to meet the owner.
As mentioned, you pay the sales tax that applies to your state.

I just bought a 2012 991 cab from an out of state Porsche dealer. They delivered the car to me to my garage. It came in an enclosed trailer. They are handling all of the paperwork and registration and plate transfer and will fed ex me the documentation. You only pay the sales tax in your home state where you're registering the vehicle. They were willing to take a trade on my 996 TT cab , and transport it back, but I sold it locally. No issues and the dealer was a pleasure to work with.
Buying from a dealer? It will be very easy. I have bought several out of state from dealers. It is happening more and more. They will make it work. And will help get it home if you are not driving it.
Good luck.

Just bought mine from a dealer in FL and had it shipped to Los Angeles...only blips have been doing CA DMV paperwork to get it registered here...done in FL through a third party vendor...they dropped the ball on one thing and it's taken a bit more time- hassle than I would have liked...
Oh well, got a great CPO car ( very unusual to find a base coupe stick with full leather interior) could have ordered it, but saved about $15,000 this way.
Good luck!!!

Thanks for all the replies guys. This is clearly the way for me to go. I'm not ok with signing before seeing the car so I'll plan on a plane trip to wherever my Porsche may be. I'm kind of thinking I could easily work this into a fun road trip back from wherever. I think I like that idea a lot. Road trip in my first Porsche sounds awesome.
Thanks again!
