What to buy.. Please help :)

I think I am getting back into the market for a new car.. I haven't been posting much on the board as I sold my cars a few years ago, but getting the itch again.

My favorite cars (my last) I owned was the panamera. I was really anxious to get one, but after visiting the board I noticed allot of issues with the car. This has really turned me off :/

I don't want to spend over 70(can maybe stretch) and the below is what I am contemplating.

Wait for 991 prices to drop
Panamera (worries about noise issues)
S6 (went to look at s4 and loves the look)
S4 (be conservative)
M4 ( wait, I loved my m3)
Macan turbo

This is allot, but I want to keep the car for a few years. I have never kept a lux car for more than one year.

Thanks!

I'm also in Dallas. I have a 991 and love it. At the price point you are talking about I would think you are a year to 18 months away for the 991 for 70k either that one with some miles on it. You named some other nice cars though that look like viable options although very different than a 911. I came from an Audi. If the budget it 70's and you are looking for a new car now look no further than the S6. It's a great car for the money. It is fast and that 4.0tt pulls like a train. Through the corners it feel big, but for a everyday sedan I'd imagine it's great. If you aren't in a rush wait for the M3/M4 I bet it's better balanced than the s6.

Good luck and hopefully I'll see you out at cars and coffee soon with the new ride.

It is my understanding that the Macan is sold out for at least a year . That does not mean a deal won't fall through but don't count on a bargain .

The M4 will be a new and highly anticipated arrival . I paid more than 70K for my last M3 (2011) . The new one wil cost more.

S4 and S6 I know nothing about .

70K will not buy a 991 . Even a used base car is priced in the mid 70's .

My suggestion -- New Boxster S or Cayman S

No one is going to argue about Porche for all around performance, but in my based opinion, think about an '09 Aston Martin V8V:

or 2007 DB9:

The stat sheets are great for all of your options, but as drivers we know it's about more than that.
The reliability of both of these vehicles are very good and you'll find plenty of information on 6 Speed.
If you don't keep your vehicles for very long anyway, what a great reason to try the road less traveled....
Good luck in whatever decision you make!

You need to narrow it down to Sports Car, Sedan or SUV.
If you really want a Sports Car, no SUV or Sedan will cut it.
Maybey that is why you are not holding your cars very long.
What is your must have?

I have to agree on the Cayman S. I think it one of the best looking cars in the line up. Put 450hp in it and it's my choice every day.

I had heard that the Panamera issue was weather stripping and could be addressed. If that is wrong, I agree, it should be off the table. Otherwise, get one - it was what you wanted.

A wide range of cars you are aiming at there. Honestly none are in the class or type of a 911 sports car.. And based on your price range you are going to be hard pressed to find a low mileage, recent base 911..

All sporty vehicles, but do you want a sedan or a true sports car.. To me that's a fundamental question and things sort themselves out once you figure that out. With a 911 you will live with minimal trunk space where you often have to plan ahead as to even going to the airport since it's hard to get most suitcases in the Frunk.. Yeah, a 911 991 has become a luxury car (too much so for many people), but it comes with the limitations of a sports car in terms of versatility..

But if you want a Porsche sports car in your range, I agree a Caymen sounds like a good alternative.. I liked the caymen as a lower cost alternative to a 911, which has a nice style (although I still think the rear end looks odd).

This may not be an easy question to answer but when do you guys think 991s (2012-2013s) will hit $70k, 2016, or even as late as 2017?

Thanks for everyone's responses!

The reason I am undecided on a SUV/sedan or sports car is the passengers. I like having that extra back seat, and like another poster said, don't care to plan my trips With a small trunk.

The vantage is an interesting option I haven't thought of. I haven't heard the best reliability with them, how is their warranty?

I've had virtually no problems with my `11 Panamera 4S in over 15K miles of driving. It has been absolutely perfect in terms of build quality, fit, and finish. I'm glad I got it!
