Guys,

Any of you do your own detailing to your 991? IF so what are the best products out there to detail yourself?

Yes and If you are interested in getting into this suggest going to the detailing forum and starting to poke around there.

There is a wealth of information there, from the correct way to wash your car without scratching it up to complex paint care. Clear bra's etc...

I detail my own cars. I haven't chronicaled a full detail, but I have put my washing procedure and leather care in my journal.

If your are interested in doing your on detailing, I would highly recommend taking a trip to South Florida and taking this class. I wish I had done this years ago. It would have saved me tons of time and money.

Thanks Money. I think this would be fun.

BTW is there anything I can use to protect/enhance the finish of the platinum wheels?

I used Opti-Coat 2.0 on mine. I took them off, spayed with Iron Out, clay barred, Wipe down with 30% Alcohol, then apply Opti-Coat 2.0. It's a permanent coating. It will darken then every so slightly and add a tiny bit more sheen, but the difference is very subtle.

I did my wheels with Opti-Coat. Definitely the look I wanted. Money, do you still use a wheel cleaner or just soap and water to maintain?

I still use wheel cleaner. My new favorite I got from addysdaddy recommendation is 1Z Einszett ColourTec. Spray it on, wait until it turns purple, then wipe it off using various tools.

Depends on what u mean by "detailing" your car since there are so many facets. Washing, claying, polishing, wax or coating. Like Matt suggested, go to the autogeek.net forums and there is tons of information on how best to detail your car-whatever the task. Posts written by Mike Phillips or Nick are worthy and you'll quickly figure out the members worth following. PiPUK owns a chemical manufacturing plant in Scotland and he's a warehouse of information regarding that subject.

Not yet. That darn Collinite will hold up for months, so you'll have to wait until the M3 gets here in September.

I just re-did my car with AF Spirit and if the Desire is better, than you may just want to pull of the Collinite and use the Desire...It is TRULY a WOW!!! Gives the car a whole different look, sheen, depth, glow and shade.

About to run outside to layer with another coat.

Good luck!

PS: and my car is white as well...Stuart is a REALLY smart guy when it comes to his detailing products!

Thanks Money. One last question - do you ever re-apply the Opti-coat to your wheels?
