I do have PSE, but I'd be able to live with this system constantly activated, as there is no annoying drone to contend with.
Hi Pete, I spoke to Mike at AWE today and like what he had to say. We will definitely have to meet up when I return from travel. I have listened to several YT videos but that just does not give the real experience.

Thank you again, Paul

Just to drive the point home... an aftermarket exhaust doesn't automatically "void" your warranty. You may, however, run into issues if something related to the exhaust system goes bad. For example, the dealer cannot blame a defective instrument cluster, or a bad headlight, on an exhaust modification. They *may* give you a hard time if your problem deals with the exhaust system or ECU codes related to air/fuel management, etc.

Again, though, most aftermarket exhausts (especially after the cats) won't give you any problems. I've taken my 991S in for service with an extremely loud exhaust, and neither my rep nor the technicians ever complained about it.

Now, on the topic of actual exhaust choices...

If you're not interested in having a "valved" system, then you have plenty of choices. You may look into Fabspeed's x-pipe or muffler replacements, CargraphicTS' x-pipes, FVD's mufflers, AWE, AFE, etc. I personally run the more aggressive, valved Cargraphic X-pipe (they have two designs), and the car is extremely loud and drones. It's a good deal louder than other exhaust systems, though.

You're close to CarreraPete... drop him a line like he suggested, or find other members/owners in your area and listen to the systems before pulling the trigger. Chances are high that you'll love a system you hear with your own ears, and you'll be good to go.

Let us know how it all goes.
Christophosphorus Thank you so much for the message. I think you are 100% correct. Hearing in person is the only way to know. When talking to Mike at AWE he had some good points about the system being quiet until the throttle is cracked. However I think I could really like the nice sound all the time...but that might get old. Especially when racking the miles up and trying to talk on the phone etc.
Thank you again, Paul

You can tell a real answer if it's a "It depends..." type of answer, just like above. I agree with Christophosphorus and would also add the point that there are certain benefits to having your dealer subcontract out the install. It's not that it becomes an "authorized" 3rd party mod, but that a dealer will stand behind the mod and any questionable interrelationship between the mod and a warranty issue will be found in your favor, due to the dealer's self-interest in the problem not being related to the mod. The big caveat, of course, is that a different dealer has no such self-interest, so if you had a third party mod performed by a first dealer, another dealer has no disincentive to conclude that the mod caused a problem.

Paul,

Wanted to reach out and see how things were going. I'd strongly recommend against going with just an X-pipe, due to the considerable increase in overall sound at all times. The AWE Tuning SwitchPath system is perfect for maintaining civility around town, or when you're on the phone, but you're still able to crack it open and satisfy your auditory desires when wanted. A bit of Jekyll and Hyde, if you will.

Here's a great example of how our SwitchPath exhaust sounds, compared to the PSE, courtesy of Serge (SM_ATL on here).

Zach,

How does your Switchpath system work on cars that do not come with the Porsche Sport Exhaust? Do you have a way to turn the valves on and off wirelessly such as the Capristo system or must a switch be hard-wired into the car and it plumbed for the vacuum lines?

On non-PSE cars, the exhaust valve operation is relative to throttle input.

On PSE-equipped cars, switching functionality is enabled via the factory switch located on the console.

All SwitchPath Exhaust Systems come with extensions for the factory vacuum lines.

On PSE cars the throttle will also open up the valves on WOT even if not activated by switch

Only above ~3300 RPM, though.

Hahah! Yeah, the volume change is amazing, especially with my new x-pipe. To be honest, I wish the system kept the valves closed when not in Sport/Sport Plus/PSE ON mode. There are times when I go over 3300rpm with moderate throttle, and the change in tone just sounds awkward.

I wonder if there's a way to reprogram that...
