Ordering Targa
Ordering Targa
Hello,
New to this forum. As background, I have a low miles 993 turbo (will never sell!), drove a 996 coupe for a while, but now really like the look of the new 2014 Targa.
I'd like to begin process of ordering the Targa but just curious to see if anyone has any input about % off MSRP I should target with dealers. I have not ordered a Porsche in a long time, so not sure what to expect in terms of pricing or process. Do I need to find a dealer who has a Targa allocation slot? Usually, targas are not super popular, but this design is new. Any recent experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

We won't help you until you post pics of your 993 Turbo...
Actually I have no idea what you might be able to get in terms of discount; I just want to see pics because that's the best looking 911 Turbo...ever...

QWERT my guess would be especially this first year you will not get a discount or a very small one at 1-2% just like the Turbo. I am sure better deals can be had. Give it time if you are in no rush dealers will give better discounts in due time.
As a side note most C2, C2s, C4s you can walk in to a dealer and a typical discount is 5-7%

Funny how they said the same thing when the 50th Anniversary Edition was announced. The market will ultimately decide...
Porsche no longer has allocation.... They build as many order as the get.... That is why the brand is going down the drain...... Macan is another example.

The opinion about the brand and the plumbing not withstanding, I do think that there is still an allocation system. I think that they have limited capacity and allocation is a way of assigning priority to orders - I am sure that they will build every order that they can, eventually.
I love the look of the Targa. If I had a few 10's of thousands laying around, it would be on my list - well, it is on there now, but it would be further up the list. But I agree that the market will decide and that you cannot expect much of a discount first year.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will try to take some pics of the 993 this weekend. Black/black with factory hardback sportseats, which I love on that car. Think I will get sport seats on new Targa too....
MTO--Can I ask which dealer your friend used? I may shoot them an email too and see if they can place another order. So far, 5% sounds like it may be the best I can do.

A Targa? It is heavy and basically delivers the performance of a C2 coupe with the smaller engine. Why get the heaviest Porsche 991 variant they make with low performance and pay a premium for it? To each his own.
All true, but it's really not that much of a difference overall, a few fractions of a second. If you're going to make it a dedicated track car, you won't be looking for a Targa. Speed is not the selling point of a Targa.
I weigh 126 lbs and am almost 6 ft tall.
No matter how light or heavy any one of you can spec a particular 991 model , I will enjoy quicker acceleration and experience better braking and handling than most of you will if I drive your car !
