Extended Warranty?

I recently purchased a 2014 991 C4S. I have been offered a Fidelity Warranty Services 7-year/70K-mile extended warranty for $3330 from the Porsche dealership from where I purchased the car. This is for the FWS Platinum Coverage/Plan. I expect that I'll drive the car no more than 5-6K miles per year, so, for me, this would simply be buying time. I'm interested to know what you guys think about this. Is this worth it? Are there better deals to be had? Other thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I did a search and somehow missed that thread. Thank you - it was very helpful!

I had a similar post recently whenI bought a preowned 991 Cab. I was more interested in buying the Porsche CPO warranty for about $2400. It adds 2 more years of warranty onto your existing manufacturer's warranty. Here was my post:

I like the CPO warranty but it was not available to me as I purchased my car new.

Care to elaborate? What did you pay for a 7/70K? And from whom?

Fidelity 7/70 for around $2850 or maybe a tad lower. Got it from the dealership. Finance can go down. They are just jerking you around. And, I got it like 3 months after I got my 2014 991. The warranty is 3rd party so it starts when you purchase it. What does it cover? It's the Fidelity Platinum 250 deductible. Hard to explain everything it covers. Here it is....

I'm planning on keeping it long term so that is why I got it. If I was a short termer or keeping it only a couple of years, I wouldn't have gotten it. I'm really scared on the electronics and that PDK going bad as they are expensive.

With a new purchase, you essentially purchased a 3yr/70K/$250 deductible for $2850. Although lacking one year, one can compare the value of a $2400-2700, 2yr/100K/$0 CPO available for preowned.

Check the online reviews on Fidelity. I bought a policy but dumped it after I saw the customer feedback. They don't like paying out and many items are not covered.

Caveat emptor..let the buyor beware.

Don't shoot the messenger...one of my sources was

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/auto_warranty/index.html

Fidelity had low ratings and the "verbatim comments" were pretty miserable. If you want to bail, you are entitled to a prorated refund without any hassles.

Yes. I know. I'll also hit the 3 years before the 70k with my driving habbits. I knew what I was getting into, but the PDK replacement cost scares me.

Also, I can get my money back anytime between now and when the warranty starts in 4 years. Then, its pro-rated....

Fixed. I passed on their offer. Thanks for the post/input.

And thanks to all others who responded.

So confused!

I thought PDK was the end all, be all of everything great in this world... It needs replacement?

I guess a manual transmission 991 is the way to go as you don't need extended warranties nor worry about them needing to be replaced.

Just sayin'

I bought it for my cayenne s (msrp $85k), 7yr/100k, $100 deductible, $38-3900. cant remember but it was under $4k. I don't know if I got a good or decent deal, but as long as something breaks once out of warranty it'll pay for itself.
