Reset "change oil now" message?

I've got 4600 miles on my car since purchase. 11 1/2 months and it's pinging me for an oil service. I purchased the car with 5400 miles on it and just rolled 10k. Dealer said i can get to 15k miles on it no prob since its not the break in oil. Can i reset the "notification"? or will it ping me every start until i get it into service and have it reset? I looked for the options in the pcm and system settings and it wasn't obvious. thanks for any advice you may have.

Are you saying that the oil was changed at 5,400 miles before you bought it?

If was me, I would just change the oil. I changed mine at around 3k miles and again at the 12 month point when it had 6k miles or so. There is some logic to both time and miles breaking down the lubrication properties of the oil.

If the dealer is suggesting that the car can go 15k miles on the same oil, I would politely suggest that he does not know what he is talking about. If you are leasing the car, perhaps you don't care. If you plan on keeping it, then I would do all the recommended maintenance.

And to answer your specific question, you need to have the dealer reset the warning, or you can buy a tool to do it yourself.

These cars need their oil changed annually no matter the mileage. I change my 996TT every spring but only put about 3-4k miles on it. The 991 had a change at 5k miles (last September) and will get it's next change probably in early August (before a road trip) at which time I expect it will have about 7500 miles. Changing oil is cheap insurance for these engines. Look after them and they'll look after you. This comes from 42 years of 911 ownership and never a major or even minor engine issue (from a mechanical viewpoint).

I agree with factoring driving patterns, mileage as well as time for determining frequency of oil changes , but .....most of the common engine ills on 911s the past 4 decades had nothing to do with oil change frequency ...like broken head studs and failed chain tensioners , RMS leaks, premature valve guide wear, IMS disasters in waiting

we have hoped 2009 -onward non -Mezger motors would be OK over time , knock on wood....but then the recent GT3 engine issue came up

don't want our younger owners to think that all will be peachy as long as oil is changed religiously on these boxer motors
