that s so strange that one can tell that basic sounds better than Bose... I've changed basic system to old type bose then to new type bose in one car (cayenne) and everytime hear sound improvements. not only me.

2 galion - maybe you should visit a dealer to check if bose amp needs software upgrade. because in fact cayenne and 911 have same! amp, same headunit (with different front panel of course) and I beleive same loudspeakers, so can't be big difference despite different room inside car

Agree. I think the Bose system in my 991 C4 sounds better than the one in my P4S. In fact, the clarity is quite good to me. I tweek the base and treble pretty much the same and no surround sound as well; also, I fade 1 or 2 to the rear speakers.

Can any audio system be enjoyable in a cab with PSE driven in Sport mode 99% of time? If so, which one or what upgrade is required? txs

Yeah, there's that...and I usually drive my 991 C4 in "Sport+" with the exhaust amplified! Then, again, that's the music I really want to hear while driving this car!

Galion - congrats on the car. Looks awesome, and can't wait to see pics with the platinum satin wheels. As others have said, if you tweak the settings on the Bose, it's not that bad. Certainly not what I'd expect for about a $2,500 option, but not bad objectively. It definitely pales by comparison to the beautiful music made by PSE, though . . .

Ok I ripped a CD and burned it to the highest quality to test.

Bass +2
Treble + 3
Fader -1
Surround ON (I didnt know I had that option, huge improvement!)
Linear OFF
Auto Pilot OFF

Conclusions:
I can live with the CD audio quality (Back to the 80's)
With the Bose I can crank the volumen a Little louder than in the Base stereo without distortion, thats it
Listening to compressed audio or BT streaming really get on my nerves.

In the end, after listening to my Base stereo for the last two years, I would not recommend the Bose to anyone. Both suck for such an expensive car, but the upgraded Bose is not worth a penny IMO.
Burmester might be a perfect solution but not in my Budget, I paid above US$6,000 for the Bose option alone.

Thanks for the advise and kind comments.
Stay tuned for more smurf mobile pics.

The Bose package includes Sirius, HD radio, and AHA. You're gettting a ~$800 Bose system upgrade. Not worth it.

naples991 is infamous around these parts
My 2013 VW Passat SE has a stock stereo that's as good as the Bose system in my 911.

Maybe the Porsche engineers should talk to the VW engineers

Yep it's the Surround that is night and day for the Bose.

Don't get me wrong, it's not great by any means.. .Just it becomes passable...

Porsche and Bose screwed themselves by setting defaults so poorly. And making it so hard to set....

Actually I realized this morning I was incorrect. You don't press option, you press sound and from there you will see a list of settings..

Man, I must have a crappier version than all the rest of you. I just picked up my brand new 2014 and I don't even have surround. Just loudness.

I cant tell if its the system that's bad or if the speakers are causing the doors to rattle. Either way this is not the Bose that i expected.

Whats the final consensus on the right settings??
