Bose: are you kidding me?
complete door panel removal, the tweeters in the dash have a cover that pops off. The under side of the drivers footwell area needed a few things moved out of the way to get at the subwoofer that is tucked up way under the dash. Went with the Focal Utopia 5" sub.
dont understand - you have bought car wih bose and replace bose amp, or without bose and install audison amp etc ?
I had the Bose system in my car and replaced it with Audison/Focal
Let me clarify, the Bose amp is still intact since the PCM drives it optically. I have the Audio Control to pull the signals off the Bose Amp, then it feeds the Audison Amp. All Bose speakers have been replaced with Focal.
Suspect you have a cab, but question is did you replace the Bose 5.25" sub woofers in the stock enclosure with the Focals? Are they driven by a new amp? I replaced my Bose sub drivers as well, but the replacements were only $20 each and still made a huge improvement.
[QUOTE=socalsteve;4124233] A lousy sounding stereo will sound lousy at whatever volume you play it at. It will sound even worse when its trying to drown out the noise of a loud motor and will sound even worse when the PSE button has been pushed.
Listening to any music in a pcar cabriolet driving over 60 mph is a crazy idea. Sh_t, the road noise at 75mph in a coupe, on varying tarmac and concrete, will show the silliness on having a Burmester, though it would good, sitting still ! It's amazing that few iPod users don't comprehend that their 'music' is compromised, even a ripped CD won't deliver the full range of a recording.
I suggest that the Bose in the 997's, which didn't offer a Burmester system, have a better sound quality, at rest, than the Bose offer in the new 991 system. But IMHO the point of driving a pcar makes 'audio' a less important part of the total experience. A mountain road, aggressive curves, and a hint of Beethoven, doesn't seem quite right.

Yes, I replaced the stock sub with a focal Utopia 5", it's being driving by a small Arc Audio amp.
No, I have a coupe.
if you reprogram pcm you can throw bose amp and route signal to audio control straight from pcm
Ah, so drop in the speakers and replace the amp too, but keep the same Bose sub enclosure? I was thinking what it would be like to run a different small amp. Would need to have some kind of independent gain control in order to match it with the system
Exactly, I know it well (see pics in my budget audio thread). I thought about replacing it, but don't want to run a new power wire from the battery, which would be a major hassle.
