New Porsche Owner with a few questions

Hello everyone. New to the forum and I just bought my first Porsche. I've had corvettes, trans-Ams and a few others, but never had the opportunity to have a Porsche. I bought a 1999 911 c2 6 speed coupe. Arena Red, tan interior and only 34k on the odometer. it is a 2 owner car, both had it garage kept and only drove it occasionally. Loving the car so far, and so are my kids. they love being dropped off at school in it.

Unfortunately, being 16 years old, a few things are in need of some TLC. My cruise control lights up but doesn't maintain speed. Everything i have read says it is the clutch switch so ordering one and hope that is the problem.

Also, the hinge on the center console is broken, which from what i have heard, is common because of the crappy plastic hinge that they used for 98 and 99. Ordering a metal hinge so hopefully that will be easy fix.

I have also noticed that the seat heaters act funny. once and a while they will work fine, but then they will intermittently not work. or one side will be fine and the other won't. Five minutes later, the working side will stop working and the other will work. Or neither will work. Any thoughts on what this might be?

I was looking at ordering from Suncoastparts.com. is this a decent company to order from, or does anyone have any other suggestions for online companies?

I would be grateful for any help.

Thanks
Phil

Hi

Congratulations. I have 1999 coupe also, as of last Thursday. Mine has 93k :-)
Not my first one so I think you will be enjoying your car for sometime to come.

Hinge should be an easy fix and Suncoast is a reliable source for parts and generally reasonable prices.
Cannot help you much with the heated seats, but I might try checking the switches. An easy starting point.

Enjoy

congrats!

Congrats on the car, your color choice IMO is great, real similar to mine

Suncoast are good people, lots of parts.
Scott @ Fremont Porsche is good also.

Performance Parts,
there are a lot of them. I have stayed with a handful that not only have fair prices, but they help you along the way with tech advise, to me that is more important than price.
Just a few that have helped me:
Sam @ Evolution Motorsport
Sam @ Bydesign Autogroup
Emerson @ Last Call Racing
Staff @ ECU Tuning
Todd @ Vivid Racing
Ron @ Techart USA

I also want to mention again, 6 Speed members and the knowledge they have is PRICELESS. Being only in my second year of Porsche ownership, I cannot tell you how much help this forum has been.
So Thanks again 6 Speeders

Thanks for the info guys. I do love the color. I looked for a long time trying to find a color combo that i liked with the mileage i wanted in the vicinity of where i live. ended up 150 miles away but worth the drive. Got a real good deal in it and even had an offer the day after i got home from a guy looking for the same car. Could have made a pretty big profit, but decided to hold on to her for right now. It's my first Porsche, so wanted time to enjoy her.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome aboard.

The hinge is a common fault and easy to replace. The heated seats are a bit of an oddity, can only be a wiring or relay issue though. Have you tried swapping switches and see if the same fault occurs but in reverse order???

Sun coast and Pelican parts are popular amongst the forum users. The wealth of information by the forum users is free, priceless although occasionally conflicting and confusing but always worth asking the question. These guys have helped me out since buying my 1st Porsche 11 months ago.

Welcome, Phil. Congratulations on your purchase. The clutch switch is probably your problem with the cruise control issue so you're on the right path there. If the back rest and the seat stop heating then the problem is not with the heating pads, but could be the control unit. It's hard to say. The thing is, if you're having trouble with both of them it could be both control units as they're separate, but the odds of both of them going out at the same time is hard to believe, but could be possible! Might be best to take it in to an Indy specialist. We do have some great tech articles here that can give you some help when it comes time to other fixes/repairs and if you ever need parts, you can find them here. If you ever need help, please do not hesitate to reach out to me on here and I will do my absolute best to assist you.

Intermittent electrical problems could be because a fuse isn't quite inserted all the way. I had that problem recently on a 03 C2, where the electrical seat adjustments worked some times, some times not: it turns out that the fuse in that circuit wasn't inserted properly. Perhaps check that first? it's an easy fix, if that's the problem.
