Smoke from my 911 😫

Hi all
new to this forum and 1st post
I have a 99 911 C4 (996)
I took it out the other day drove it normal from cold and notice after a couple of miles Smoke from my rear mirror.
I pulled over and it was bellowing out from both tail pipes on tick over .turned it off and towed it home.
I few times before it I could hear a squealing noise as if it was a loose belt but no belt was slack .
the smoke is white and stays in the air .

could do with some advise please (and reasurance)
hoping it's not terminal

Cheers

Yes, as MkC2S said, the most likely scenario is the Air/Oil Separator (AOS). This is a common failure point of the M96 engines.

There are a few common ways oil is making it to the combustion chamber, but a failing AOS is the most common on these cars. You should get a manometer and test for "inches of water column". The unit tests the vacuum of the cylinders. It should read around a "5" inches of water.

Basically quoting for two days of work? Nope, not in my opinion unless the shop insists on removing the engine to do this job. A skilled mechanic can install the AOS by lowing the engine. It's a beast of a job from what I've personally seen and so I can see why most people elect to have it done with the transmission and/or engine is removed for other things like a clutch replacement or IMS install.

What is the totally estimate in $$?

14 hrs ??? yikes
I had mine replaced 3 months ago on my 997 & my indy charged me 4.8 hrs @ $145.00.
Maybe you need to get another estimate somewhere else.

Also depends on whether it's a Tiptronic or Manual. Tiptronic cars require engine removal to replace the AOS.
