Engine smoke......normal?

Hey guys - new to the world of TT's and need some help as I'm shopping around for an '01.

I've come to understand that the 996TT's will sometimes create a decent sized puff of smoke when you fire them up. I can deal with this.

Let's say, however, that there is a very small puff of smoke when the engine is not fully warmed up and you accelerate briskly off the line (brisk = not too hard, but not like your grandma drives either). Would this be considered "normal"?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. More than likely it is the rich condition the car needs for cold acceleration. It takes more fuel on a cold motor to accelerate. If you nail it you are seeing the excessive fuel. It is very normal.

Stephen,

so that would apply to an incident I had yesterday with an irritant. I handly beat him but was pushing a lot of whitish smoke. So that wouldn't be oil, it would be unburned fuel. I checked my oil level and there was no change in level in about 500-1000 miles.

thanks

geoff

Normal only for some? My 03 TTX50 never smokes. I know of many others that also don't smoke. I also would not rely on Porsche. Very rarely will they ever say anything is wrong, right up to the point that they suddenly decide to replace your engine. So everything is normal untill they can no longer say it.
