Probably A dumb question on PCM navigation
I purchased the same service but cant get it working. Is there some kind of setting or configuration that you have to perform to get it working? I have the same service on my wife's Mercedes and didn't have to do anything to get it working. My C4S is a 2013.
That said Sirus XM are criminals and lie to you. Probably get 10 stories if I called 10 times.. I might investigate this at some point again..
What most usually do is get outside so you have service, then call them and they send the codes out..
No it should just work.. Sometimes it take a while for the codes to update to your receiver especially if you keep it in the garage mostly. I believe they are only sent periodically.

No one ever bought it, and at some point I think in the '13's they just included it for free..

FWIW, if you've never tried FM traffic before, you might change your mind about its relative value. I used it on a Garmin Zumo for years and it certainly wasn't worth the rather small investment in the receiver; by the time I got an alert I was already in the mess rather than avoiding it at original route time.

I also use it when I go to Northern Germany and to my surprise FM worked there in the Hamburg Area..
I don't really use it for the "alerts" I just like having the traffic overlay on my map to see where the congestion is and for that it works fine as well as rerouting me through downtown areas..
I find it meets all of my needs. Sure it depends on where you are geographically but generally traffic is only necessary to me in metropolitan areas and it seems to work fine in most of the areas I tend to travel to domestically.. Really all I'm just looking for are major traffic Jams.. and for that it has been very reliable. So for my purposes I'd be happy to have that same level of service in my DD.
The XM traffic I had for free on my 991 during the free 3 month period was ok, but I didn't find it any better or worse than FM. The XM weather was certainly useless to me.
The comment I saw above was for XM Traffic ala' cart.. And I might try it at some point. Although I suspect the issue I had with XM was that I wanted traffic in conjunction with my minimal music package. Which they wouldn't do. However I suspect if I just cancel the package I can probably get traffic ala cart..
Just the BS nuances of dealing with XM.. As it is now I'm probably going to let my music subscription expire at the end of this period as I just don't use it much since I loaded up my Jukebox.

I have exactly the opposite opinion and experience. I've used FM traffic on my Garmin Nuvi's which I travel with. And now days, any of the Garmin I would buy include the FM receiver as part of the cable (in the past they used to make you buy separate cable. A few years ago they had some kind of MS service that was discontinued and needed yet another receiver. But now days I think they include it for all but the lowest end models).

Sounds like there may be much better FM traffic coverage in SoCal than here up north. I rarely drive when I travel internationally, so I can't comment there.

I'm finding that it works noticeably better than FM traffic did for me, but I think our use cases are slightly different. Like you, I want the overlay view and a reroute, not "alerting" - but the reroutes I'm looking for are to avoid freeway jams and/or to recover time. Almost always, I'd find that FM traffic wouldn't tell me about congestion until I was minutes from experiencing it, leaving me with few options to avoid.

No idea what XM's business practices are like, though from what I've been reading lately they're substandard.

To be honest, I have noticed at times that on my Garmin (with FM traffic) sometimes there is a lag in info input for the traffic detours.. But I've never really tried to quantify it or compare to XM.. But you may have a point there. I suppose it is acceptable to me, but maybe not perfect.
But yeah, you are right we may use a bit differently. Typically I have used the FM traffic when I'm out of town on business or vacation.. Just trying to avoid generally congested areas when I'm not familiar with the area.
Around home my commute is rather short and I rarely find the need for traffic info, except on occasion. Thus the low value of paying a monthly charge for XM, (although at times it would be nice now that I don't have it after the initial free 3 months).
Now I just pull up google maps on my phone as I'm getting in the car in the morning and look at the traffic overlay. And it seem to serve my purpose I guess.
