$400 for an oil change...Really?
I really cannot identify with these threads, I'm sorry guys.
I got over the overpriced oil changes years ago, it's just par for the course with expensive cars if you bring it to the dealerships. They have to buy parts, labor and pay their overhead (have you seen some of these places) and make a profit.
I can see why they charge what they do, but no one is holding a gun to your head to have it done there. Call around if you care to save a couple hundred here or there or learn to do it yourself, I guess.
I just pay and move along, same with tires, insurance, and gas (MPG) (I've got bigger stuff to worry about)
I couldn't care less what this $h!t costs (it's really peanuts in the grand scheme) and I just pay and mark it up to "pay to play" but I'm not a super frugal guy--$h!t I think nothing of ordering $50 entrees at dinner, drink $800 bottles of Scotch, $40 cigars, buy five figure watches, dozens of $100 polos, etc., etc. This stuff really doesn't really add up to a lot in the scheme of things, in my life at least. Is it all a waste of money?, of course it is, but I enjoy it and I just keep making more money every single day....so what's the problem.
I know I'm not the only guy who thinks this way on here.
And for the record, I have a healthy retirement portfolio, large savings accounts for my kids' college and plenty of liquid cash savings (so don't think I spend it all). I'm not some trust fund guy or some dot com founder, my wife and I each make deep six figure incomes, big whoop.
I always say I got where I am in life making good decisions from a very early age and I continue doing so every single day, I'm blessed!
I think some of you guys are either the cheapest SOBs on the planet or you have no right driving these cars, sorry I'm just being honest!
You tight wads need to get out more and enjoy your hard earned money, damn
And if you're really concerned about saving a hundred here or thousand there, you really shouldn't be in these cars, just my brutally honest opinion--go by a 3 series, they come with free maintenance and a lot cheaper (not bad cars either)

My other car is a 3 Series. Now I'm really confused about my economic standing in life!
4 pages due to a simple initial question. If you diy be aware that you'll need a couple of less than typical tools, 8mm allen wrench & a 36mm wrench or socket. The big deal is that the car has to sit for about an hour to truly drain all of the Mobil 1 out (with a filter change). That ties up a work bay in the service garage. At home you'll have those 55 mins to lovingly clean the carpet and the reorganize the boot, RainX the windshield, etc. Or you could just sit awaiting someone to do so. The beating that some pcars get in the 1st 2,500 miles warrants clean oil.
Enjoy the small contact as well as the big events of the car.

I'm voting for just a ******..
So yeah just like that.. And of course being as wealthy as he is.. who cares if it costs a fortune to fix.. As we have all been educated now that if you can't afford to get it fixed then you have no right owning one.. right?
Just another cost not to care about.. just like the buying $100 Polo shirts by the carton and $800 bottles.. It's only money something the rest of us cheapskates don't understand..
Sorry guys, not a troll, just expressing my opinion. I know how it sounds and some here want to get on their high horse about the value of a dollar. My point was that our six figure cars are just as wasteful as $100 polos, $800 bottles, etc., etc.
We're all car guys here and outsiders see these cars as a waste of good money and unnecessary, like the way some of you see the $100 polos and $800 Scotch--I wasn't being a blowhard or bragging just trying to illustrate how we're all "wasting" gobs of money on these cars, now we're pinching pennies on service, see the hypocrisy?
Sorry I enjoy spending my money on more than nice cars, sorry you guys don't see it that way. I don't believe I'm the only one here.
Call me a d0uche or whatever name you want, I could give a rats as$ what anyone thinks of me, you're entitled to your opinion as am I. I am who I am and I will stand up and admit it, why hide or pretend, especially online
BTW, love the Lambo comment, lol--I'll probably buy one eventually, although I'm really more of an f-car guy at heart. I try to experience as much of this life as I can within my limits, too bad for you if it doesn't fit your lifestyle!

The reason I enjoy posting and reading these forums is because we all share enjoyment in our cars and there is very very few people in this world that get it (at this level of insanity). We're all the same in that respect, even if we share differences in other ways, we're all a family whether you want me or not, maybe I should change my name to BlackSheep!

People love seeing exotic car crashes because they can feel better that the person who can afford one is a putz. Guess what these same people think of us in our 911's?
That being said that guy was muy estupido.
Food for thought: if this happened in a Toyota you could claim that it was unintended sudden acceleration that must clearly be an engineering flaw and most definitely not the drivers fault.

However where I think you lose touch with reality is when you place your personal judgments on other people and their own values (i.e. calling people cheap and undeserving) which are clearly seen through a rather narrow lens..
Clearly most of us are successful enough to afford an expensive car.. Some of us may have saved for lifetime.. but I stop short of calling it a waste.. rather where we have made our own choices as to spend our money.
You seem to take a rather lax attitude to spending yours, which is your own personal business and while it would be easy, I make no judgments.. I don't know you of course, but it is easy to be very cavalier when you make a lot of money. It is also very easy to be out of touch with reality..
I'd tend to guess from your comments that you are among the more affluent end of the majority here.. And I admire your success. Maybe you can afford and consider a few hundred or a thousand pocket change that isn't worth bending over to pick up.
We all have our threshold, and yours is probably a lot higher than many of us here.. That isn't what make you a d!ck.. what makes you a d!ck is declaring you can't identify with something and proceeding to place your own value judgement on others who have much different situations than you. I suppose in a more general sense.. it's just not cool....

I took my 2013 991 C4 to the dealership on Friday because the on-board computer said it was time to change the oil. I thought it would just be a matter of resetting the computer because I took delivery of this car (new) on February 1, 2014, and have only driven it about 2500 miles since then. So, imagine my surprise when the service advisor told me that I needed to change the oil due to the time that had passed since the car first arrived at the dealer, and that an oil change would cost $400. At that point I reached out to my salesman for futher clarification and/or relief. He reset the computer and now I will be reminded to change the oil every November. Fine, but $400? Are others paying anything like this? I realize it's a Porsche 991; however, we're just talking about several quarts of oil and a filter that, perhaps, amounts to $125. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
