A less controversial and polarizing subject (lol I think).... The speddometer

Sorry for misspelling Speedometer in the title.. lol..

Hopefully a less polarizing subject than $400 oil changes...

I was bored at a long stoplight on the way home from work and started wondering..

The 991 speedometer.. We have two of them.. The traditional analog instrument gauge and the digital reading in the tach gauge.

Which one to you normally use? Me I realized since I've had my 991, I don't think I've ever even looked at the analog one when driving.. And it is kinda obscured from my view anyway because of how I position my steering wheel.

I would suppose messing with the traditional 5 gauge 911 cluster would be blasphemous to a purist.. But I think I'd rather have another malfunction display in it's place. Maybe one screen could be a traditional analog speedometer. but I find myself constantly flipping through the malfunction display and would find a second more useful given I never use the analog speedo..

Of course digital mainly - it's in front of your face and the most convenient. The analog is really small and the resolution of steps is too big, as they're trying to fit all the way to 200mph in small space - I guess that's a traditional one. I do however, look at analog every now and then...

Digital always. Never look at the analog one as that takes much more time to figure out what speed I'm at.

You mean people actually look at the speedometer?

Coming to Porsche from two cars with a HUD, an M6 and a 750i, I've relied exclusively on the digital directly in front of me to tell me my speed.

I'm so rich that I don't care if I'm speeding. That's what my lawyers are for. Why have this car if you're going to obey the speed limit?

Oh, and BTW, I use the digital speed readout since I can't really see the top part of the analog speedometer due to my steering wheel/sitting position.

Digital here too. As Fester said, the scale of the analog speedo is too small to get an accurate, quick reading.

I use the digital mostly, although I like having the analog speedo too--the steering wheel always cuts off the top portion of the speedo in most cars I've had in recent history, I'm happy to have the digital. Another feature I like is the little speed limit display, it catches my attention sometimes and is helpful--amazing how many 35MPH zone there are

that's cool, I'm so rich, I have a dude who sits in the back and tells me how fast I'm going--he's an emaciated dwarf to keep the weight down, I don't want to loose too much performance.

Digital here. It's pretty difficult to quickly and correctly tell my speed using the analog given the small size of the analog speedometer and the placement of my steering wheel. The digital one is so convenient.

Yeah, that was my thought too.. the range is so compressed that it is hard glance at and tell your speed.

Goes to my feeling it is a waste of panel space and they should put something useful in it's place.
