need help with a watch

Any chance you could throw that on a scale and let me know how much it weighs. I like bulky dive watches but there is limit. I have a Ball Deepquest and I don't want another watch that is that heavy. The Ball is huge but made of titanium.

I do not think it makes one iota of difference if you have the watch constantly wound on a winder or you let it wind down and reset if needed. I don't use a winder, never have, and have had multiple automatic Rolex, Omega, Panerai and Patek Philippe models over the years.
I like a nice watch, but do not always wear one, so mine always require setting and winding, and they have always run fine for me.
And regarding the post stating Rolex watches going up in value instead of losing value, what planet do you live on? Unless you have a very limited edition or subsequently very collectible model, you can expect about 50-60% value on your pre-owned Rolex after a few years. The only way that is not the case is with the SS Daytona, or maybe with some solid gold types that will pull up in value as the cost of gold increases. Even used Daytonas sell for less than asking price, albeit for more a percentage of new cost than a comparable all stainless Datejust, for example.
The only time I made money on a watch I sold was on a solid 18K white gold Patek I owned for about a 2 years, that had a $6000 price increase in 18 months. But for regular high dollar Swiss watches, you will hardly ever recoup close go what you lay new at an AD.
That is why the gray market is so attractive. Many times if you buy pre-owned, you can get back what you paid for the piece, and you do not lose money.

Yes some more than others. Again this is over time so you could argue there is an initial hit but they catchup pretty quick. Inflation and currency value considered you can argue you stayed in place but so what. Price a new submariner and a mint 3 year old used one. You will see that the guy who paid less 3 yrs ago has a watch worth near what a new one is if sold privately. As time goes on that often improves.
1) rolex has twice a year price increases so the new ones get more expensive. Unlike cars this pushes up used value a bit. Model changes are not drastic so an old one often looks identical to a new one.
2) supply and demand
3) in the watch world very often people want the older one. I have 2 in that category and they are not Daytonas. Happens to classic cars too.

the Rolex DSSD watch head is not that wide but is very thick due to its unique ring lock system and feels quite top heavy due to its relatively narrow and then very tapered bracelet , so one must wear it very very tight on the wrist so it doesnt try to perform the dreaded flop over , which makes it feel heavier than it is, but the majority who wear their watches like to have the recommended one fingers worth of looseness between the strap and the wrist for comfort..not doable when a heavy watch head and its bracelet are not in balance. They did this so as not to make this ultimate engineered diving tool watch is good for 12,000 ft under water not to appear too much like a ...tool watch , since most of its owners are horrified of it even getting wet washing their hands.
It weighs about 225 grams ( half a pound ) ...but feels heavier than watches that outweigh it ( of which there many ) but are more balanced on both sides of the wrist because they have heavier wider non tapering bracelets . You can only tell how a watch feels by trying it on..never go by someone else's review ..sorta like seat comfort , degree of aftermarket exhaust drone or suspension feel...so subjective .

Thanks many valid points especially about trying them on. My Deepquest is crazy thick I bet even thicker the the DSSD but feels pretty nice on my wrist. It it is only a little over 200 grams.

I love Ball Watches...I have a Ceramic " Peak XV " ( original western name for Mt Everest ) in my collection ...love that Ginza - bright neon like multicolor lume at 5am with fully dark adapted eyes! I held it over my wife's face once in the dark near sunrise and it woke her up !

The Watch Snob... Ask Men
I have learned a portion about watches from Ask Men, and since you have a budget of 10k, I would research a bit more about horology because ultimately watch movements, history, fit and finish may be more important to you than the color.

here's a small sample of some more " inclusive " well written no attitude watch enthusiast sites , the first is edited by Ariel Adams, the watch world equivalent of the Wall Street Journal's Pulitzer Prize winning auto writer Dan Neil :

For 10k budget I recommend a rolex sub, blancpain fifty fathoms, Omega dark side of the moon speedmaster, possibly a panerai if the style suits you. They are sort of the champions of multiple straps, which you may like.
Rolex and patek hold their value far better than the rest of the mass produced watches. If you buy at an AD, pay sticker and tax, you will get bent over if you sell. You must buy at a discount and ship out of state for tax purposes. Rolexforums is a great resource for more information on numerous brands as is timezone.
