X51 Power Kit ..Is it worth to upgrade?
SuncoastParts selling X51 for $11K and my dealer said the labor costs $5k so we are looking at $16K for increase 30HP ... Its $533 per one HP

Worth it if you order the car with it from the factory.
Wouldn't bother with it after the fact. Too expensive and won't recoup anything at resale.
Your buddies at Fabspeed claim to give you more HP just from a muffler. It's amazing how they magically do that. I bet Porsche is dying to find out how that magical muffler works!

I know this might be a stupid question. But why is it so expensive to have dealer put this in? I have heard that they can drop an engine and put it back in very easily. I realize that there are many steps, but $5000 still sounds like a lot of money for this job.
Seeing that none of the dealers can diagnose a problem unless the magical computer code comes up, you're probably paying them to ship the engine to Germany for the work to be performed! Ha ha.
Our PCA club visited Fabspeed last Saturday and I too just couldn't figure out how these guys were doing so much with so little. They have a nice shop, great machines and great looking products - but I kept thinking about those ads in the back of R&T in the 60s that promised 50mpg and double the hp with water injection.

Opening it up a bit and getting an extra 5-8HP or so maybe..
It's acoustics and aesthetics... That's about it.. With some hot air (exhaust) thrown in..

If you're looking to beef up the sound of your exhaust, it's fine. Being the terror in your subdivision, ok. They do a great job at that. Opening it up a bit and getting an extra 5-8HP or so maybe.. It's acoustics and aesthetics... That's about it.. With some hot air (exhaust) thrown in..
As far as actual Porsche issues, they are there and always have been there. Same goes with all other car manufacturers.
The thing that sets different brands apart, is how good they are with post purchase customer service and willingness to "make it right" for its loyal and very lucrative customers. In many circumstances, Porsche has not stood out among ANY car manufacturer. Starting at Hyundai and right up the food chain.
People expect more from PORSCHE. They are paying an absolute premium, and expect a premium experience and service.
They are one if, if not the most profitable per unit car manufacturers out there.
Yes, more profitable per car than any of their in siblings in the Volkswagon group, Mercedes, BMW, and the list goes on.
Just like any other consumer good or service. I'll pay more, just take good care of me and give me the experience I've paid for .... It's quite an old and obvious formula. Unfortunately, arrogance can eclipse humbleness and companies can take things for granted.
The end ....
Their website shows 27 hp gain...they post a dynamometer sheet and they do have one on site....who knows, they may have something there or, it may be great sounding snake oil.
As you said before, millions of dollars spend by Porsche. Don't you think if they could as easily add on 27-44HP by an exhaust that would cost them under $100 in manufacturing costs they'd do it?
Look at the power kit pricing. The realistic cost of horsepower. The 911 GTS is coming out next year too. See what they need to do, and have done in the past to bump up the HP. Look at the new Cayman GTS. It just came out.
You can look at get rich stock return charts all day too. You seem like a smart guy and am sure you can think all this through.
Like I've said before, the HP claims and promises have been around since the first mod. There's no end in sight. Guys always want to feel like they have the biggest dick in the group and fall for these things..
If you like the sound, go for it! I just don't buy the exaggerated HP claims. Simple as that.
By the way, I have the PSE and very happy with it. Other than sound, I don't think there's any additional HP associated with it.
I like that it doesn't sound like an accountant's 911, but glad it doesn't sound like the typical 17yr olds tricked up Civic either. No offense to accountants or Civic drivers!

To answer the op question, the x51 car feels way different than the regular s. IMO feels faster than a stock 996tt. If I where you, I would add that before i went down the road of a bunch of aftermarket items. In the end, the x51 will net you the most true power, and as we all know, Porsche understates their numbers. Go drive one and you'll see the difference.
