Power Frunk in the future please!
Power Frunk in the future please!
Not sure if I am the only one but I would like a power option for closing the frunk.
At least here in South Florida where is hot pretty much 365, closing the frunk with your bare hand is pretty much flirting with a burning injury.
I DD the car when I am not traveling, and use the frunk quite a bit for my briefcase, gym bag, etc...
I thought Porsche would have come up with this small option by now???

Glove, Cooking mitt, etc...all very good options but Porsche should provide them with the car 😝
With all the options available for this car, a small closing mechanism for a powered frunk should not add a great amount of weight, probably negligable in respect to the overall weight of the car...

I bet the dealer have these soon with the Porsche logo...$87 for the right and $87 for the left.

Heat never seems to be an issue for me even in the blistering hot desert sun.. Usually just pushing down with the heel of the palm on the emblem, and that part of my hand isn't all that sensitive to heat. Maybe it is the emblem reflects the heat better and isn't as hot.. not sure.
But I wouldn't mind some kind of option for a power close of some type. I always cringe when I push down on the emblem to latch the frunk..
I always feel like I'm going to bend the hood... worry about pushing too hard (I realize that isn't going to happen, just a perception). It has a much more fragile feel when closing than I normally expect for a trunk, hood or door.

Interesting idea. I don't think it would be that much weight and cost if you just had the final 2" covered and that's probably where you're burning your hand. A second option would be for them to make a non-heat conducting Porsche emblem for the funk. Any glove would due in the mean time and is easy to carry.

Porsche says to push in the area under the badge. With my keyless entry, the hood opens just by waving your hand over the bumper below the hood.
A no touch close would be nice as well. Why touch the paint and hood if you don't have to?

I've always just just kinda pull down on the meal latch ring on the underside of frunk and let the lid drop..
Then I push on the crest (as close as I can to towards the front without touching paint) with the heel of my palm... Never on the paint itself. At least this is what the dealer demonstrated to me on delivery of a 997 and my current 991..
Look in your owners manual too. Same thing.
The area below the crest is more reinforced and I'd rather push on that than the crest. The crest only has two posts and screws holding it on too. Not the strongest thing in my opinion.

* I'd verify anything a dealer says. It's a toss up between what they know and the average Joe on the street. You can get faster and better answers on this forum any day/time of the week : )

But I'm not worried about how the crest is secured to the hood/frunk that isn't really relevant as you are applying a downward pressure on it. .The screws merely retain it from falling off.. the crest just happens to be between your hand and the frunk lid. ..
Rather it is the structural integrity of the area directly under the crest (or where ever you push) that matters. Ideally you would be pushing in a location that is directly over the metal latch..
Actually when I looked at the imanual video, where they show her pressing in the video was off center a bit (not directly below the crest but slightly off to the side ) and in looking at the structure of the frunk lid from the bottom appears to be no better than the crest. I suppose being gentle with where you push is probably the more important thing
I've also seen other Porsche videos (was somewhere on their website) that showed pushing directly on the crests and not below, I'll have to see if I can find it..
I looked at it a little closer it a few minutes ago and bottom of the crest is positioned directly over the top attachment of the latch and in looking at it I'm more or less satisfied that by pushing on the bottom of the crest is probably just as good.
The guy who did my delivery was pretty technical and has been around a while. So I suspect if he were way off base on something like this he would have seen a few bent hoods, which obviously hasn't happened. And in reality I've seen no bent 991's in that area so it is probably a lot more thinking on my part that is necessary
